Redundancy

Hi mamas! Has anyone been redundant during or after maternity leave? I extended my mat leave till September, but got an email about formal teaching staff restructure and I believe they want to make some redundancies as the numbers of pupils are dropping. How do they do it? First, the people that their roles are affected or whoever is newer in the job/school?

Check your contract/employee handbook - I believe you should be safe because of your maternity leave/being within a certain period (18 months perhaps) of being back from mat leave. At least that’s what I’ve known from others in the private sector.

I got made redundant last month for the same reason of pupil numbers dropping- ours was based on qualifications, learning walk feedbacks throughout the year and an interview ! 40% 60% 10% apparently When I went back after maternity I’m sure my HOD wanted me out long list of nasty things she did that I went to the union about and by no surprise I was the one to go even though I’m part time and more experienced than the others I was up against Xx

Worth checking if youre protected on maternity - horrible stressful process that went on for 3 months wouldn’t wish it on anyone xx
