Hey… don’t use gaviscon with any anti reflux formula or thickening agents….. it will likely give constipation and in my daughters cause bloody stools when she could push them out
Many gp’s aren’t familiar with this information and so miss advise
Thank you!@Kelly @Kim what did you find best? Gaviscon and normal formula or anti reflux formula?
I started my daughter on kendermill and gaviscon . She wasn’t keen on reflux formula which to be honest didn’t seem to work aswell as the gaviscon anyway
I won't lie i stuck with anti reflux formula and her reflux has flared up again but unsure if it's a reaction from her vaccinations as she was fine until that point. The gaviscon gave her terrible constipation and she was screaming worse than the reflux which broke my heart to watch. I may need to consider switching formula if we continue to have issues as she has been spitting up a fair amount of formula the last 2 days and I've done countless clothes changes and cot bed sheet changes than I have done in 2 days than the whole week 😅 x
@Kim @Amy it’s trail and error with gaviscon…. I used to give 1 sachet per bottle but I was told to give 2 per bottle… 2 was way too much h for my daughter…. You can start with half a sachet and build it up as long as you don’t exceed the daily total amount. Also important to make sure if you use 1 sachet that it is mixed with 115ml of formula as the ratio guide (eg no less than 115ml formula mixed with the gaviscon but obviously you can mix more formula if you choose too )
Thanks both! X
Good luck @Amy
You can't use the gaviscon in the formula because the anti reflux formula is already pre thickened. My gp said I had to use one or the other. Either normal cow and gate and gaviscon together or just the anti reflux formula on its own. You could give the gaviscon separately not mixing it in a bottle made up with the formula. But you will find it will give your little one constipation if your on both as gaviscon side effect alone is constipation x
