temp accommodation/private renting on uc

If you go online and google local housing allowance and put in your area it will tell you you’ll be eligible for a 2 bed because of the kids. You’ll struggle getting private without a guarantor and reference to be honest they are very strict but I totally get what you mean about council I’ve been told 5-7 years it’s crazy. I’d rather prepare you you’ll probably be in temp for a while unfortunately Good luck message me if you want to talk x

@kelly the housing advisor told me earlier the council will pay the deposit and my first months rent. i heard they cant turn away people on uc now as its this new scheme thats come out?? not too sure how much of that is true x

Many private landlords will not accept people on UC. I know they're not supposed to discriminate, but they absolutely do!

@Rebecca see alot of people have said they dont take people on uc, but the advisor said that they have a list of private landlords at the council that i can figure out my options with? so its got me all abit frazzled x

I wouldn’t bother going private I went to so many viewing for 2/3 bedrooms all stating they accept housing benefit. But they genuinely do not want anybody on UC, they state they don’t “discriminate” but so many of the agent said to me do not bother filling the form the landlord won’t consider. Also if the odd one that maybe does agree, they want a guarantor that is a home owner and earns x4 times the months rent which is ridiculous in this economy because the rent alone is expensive. Your best bet is to stick to getting into a temporary accommodation and fighting for the rights of your council homing you as they have a duty to x

@Nancy in Manchester where I am from the offer the deposit and first months rent too but it’s completely pointless as I don’t have a grantor or reference, i don’t think the new scheme makes a difference me and a few people I know been applying to private for years got nowhere because of not having garntor/ references and not eating a enough 2 bed round me is over a grand atleast no bills. I agree with everything Hamda said. It’s ridiculous

@kelly honestly it’s such difficult times. But what helps is being persistent and persevering. In the times we live with the housing crisis you need to try every avenue and put your all in it. Emailing, calling, researching, calling housing support bureaus. You have to push through and be patience x

@Hamda 100% feels so one sided my housing officer was ignoring me for months and now I have a new one she’s emailed me saying I haven’t been in contact for a while they are going to stop helping me 😂 all I’ve been offered is one night in hotel and possibly other nights but I’ll have to travel between the hotels which are most likely to be 25 plus miles away from each other with all our stuff and now being pregnant again. Literally impossible and they always like “apply for private rent” then I send 20+ screenshots of them saying no bc of garntor and they say keep trying 😂😂😂
