Living in LV

Hello! We may be moving to Las Vegas and would like the inside scoop on what it's like living there. Is it family friendly? Any neighborhood recommendations? Do you enjoy living there? Is the heat really that bad? And anything else you want to add

There are incredible aspects to living here and things that are meh, too. For perspective, where are coming from and why would you want to move here? You're welcome to email me hiswyldflower@gmail.com

I like living in Vegas, I don’t love it. It depends on the family friendly part and the neighborhood you’re in. I’m in cadence which I loveeeeeeeeee. The heat is ok, it’s not like we live outside lol, I work in the heat also but you will get use to it

@Rachel we're moving from Arlington, Virginia! Moving because of husband's job

Ok, there's so many outdoor playgrounds and shopping malls to go explore. There are also Momco groups in the area to get connected as a mom. Honestly, in my opinion, the best thing you could do is get plugged into a good church and that will open the door to so many other cool things. Vegas culture is largely entertainment and food. It is also really transient. For the community, you have to be incredibly intentional.

Vegas isn’t terrible. Education here isn’t the best for your kid. When I was in school, we were ranked 50th in education. lol You have pretty solid food options imo but that’s only if you’re an adventurous eater. Family friendly? A little. I mean there’s stuff to do for sure, but Vegas is so big and such a big entertainment city that you have to go looking for specifics on what you want to do. I like being away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It feels more safe and enjoyable to not be in the traffic all the time. The heat sucks. You definitely do get used to it but I’ve lived in a town with actual seasons, so I do miss seeing the snow and leaves falling gently on a nice autumn day. You won’t really get that here. It’s mostly just hot or not.

Here’s our good bad and ugly! We moved here from Wisconsin for work and finally feel adjusted after 2 years! We’re in Summerlin and my kids are in an incredible school so that’s a plus. You really can’t beat the weather here. We are at a park 300 days a year here and live within walking distance to 3. The parks are incredible here. You adjust to the heat and I always remind myself of the beauty of 4 am swim sessions and how it’d be a 4 am shoveling session in Wisconsin most days. I love the roads, layout of Vegas and driving here but hate the drivers. We’ve been in 2 accidents. Work is so hard here. My husband and I are both in the casino industry and married to each other and our careers lol, and we’ve never had to work so hard in our life. Shopping centers and parking lots here are also wild on weekends. So is traffic. Lol. I love it here though!!

@Stephanie I did some light research on LV and heard Summerlin is a nice spot! Wisconsin winter weather is different from the DMV but I will definitely miss the snow and fall leaves like Janelle mentioned. I work for the govt so I am a little worried that finding a job will be a bit difficult for me
