Water

Does anyone know if we should be giving small amounts of cool boiled water in this hot weather? I always thought you shouldn't give water until they are 6 months and that then it was boiled water until 1 year but the NHS website says boiled water for under 6 months and then tap water after 6 months?

I've been told not to introduce water until baby starts weaning. In hot weather they'll be more thirsty so will need more milk than usual

babies will feed more to keep them cooled down! they get some water within your milk x

No water until 6 months and then tap is fine x

No definitely not! No water for under 6 months. I guess they may have that guidance in place in case anyone went against guidance of waiting to 6+ months. Also might be in relation to using boiled water for other things like making formula etc. but not to give baby directly. They get enough water through milk so may just need some extra hydration that way.

@Kylie Tap water isn’t fine it’s cooled boiled water until about a year x

I gave my lo cool boiled water yesterday only about 3 oz over the day but it was 100% needed I’d rather that then them overheat x

Breastmilk becomes more watery when it’s hot so you can mimic this if on formula and add cooled boiled water but this is only if baby is showing signs of dehydration or constipation not as the norm

Thank you everyone. I thought that was the case and to just up the milk intake if needed 😊
