My first measured 98th percentile my entire pregnancy and I had a completely natural birth, trust your body it knows what it's doing and it is extremely rare for a body to create a bigger baby than it can birth. Your body can do this you got this just trust yourself and listen to what your body needs
Ultrasounds are notoriously unreliable for measurements. My babies were both supposed to be huge and came out 7 lbs 6 oz and 8 lbs 6 oz. Try not to stress about it!
It's still possible 🤷🏻♀️ I've heard of others doing it but also, my son was expected to be 9-10lbs at birth and was "measuring big" and he turned out to be 7lbs. Ultrasound measurements can be wayyy off especially the further along you get. It's only an estimate. How big were you at birth and the father? usually you can go off of that, most won't be too big if the parents were but in some cases they are. I was 6lbs, my husband was 11lbs 😮💨 our son was 7lbs, and our daughter has yet to make her arrival but is also "measuring big" so we'll see.
I had a vaginal birth, and my daughter weighed 9 pounds. My next baby is on track to be 10 pounds. He's in the 98th percentile. My doc is totally fine with me trying for a vaginal birth. Also, she said a lot of docs will induce at 39 weeks if baby is measuring big. I was induced at 39 weeks with my daughter, and I'll be induced again at 39 weeks. I will also mention that I'm tall....5'10. So I think that makes it slightly easier. Good luck. You got this!!!
I don’t have any personal experience or advice with this as my daughter was only 7lbs 5oz, but at the birth center I go to they have a chart each month of all their births and along with names and weights and I see large babies (9+) on there every month! I was also told by my midwife that bigger babies can actually be easier then small ones bc they don’t have as much room to move around while coming out😅 and our bodies and babies are very intuitive so they were 100000% designed to birth babies regardless of size. Also I know TONS of moms who were told they were going to have a “big baby” and they came out pretty average size🤷🏻♀️ I don’t believe you can truly tell the weight of a baby while in utero.
These responses have literally given me the consolation I needed in this moment. I was also told just yesterday that my baby is weighing 6lbs at 33 wks and predicted to weigh 9 lbs at birth. It deflated my hopes for a natural vaginal birth. Thanks for the question and answers, ladies.
My baby was measuring on the bigger side but it's slowing down. He was in the 96th percentile and now in the 79th percentile. My doula swears that "your body will open for the baby it's creating". And she also says that the babies that have been projected to be big aren't actually that big at birth. She's very confident that a natural birth is still possible even with a huge baby. Hope that eases your mind.
