Flexible working hours as a teacher?

Is this possible.. I haven’t heard anyone talk about this and just wondered if this is a possibility.

Do you mean like working half days or working a few days a week?

I’ve filled out a flexible working form as I want to go down to 4 days teaching.

The options for flexible working I was offered were: - Later starts (a colleague of mine started everyday at 10am so missed Form & P1 to do the school run for her daughter), - Early finishes (no last lesson or meetings - but this is a more difficult one to get as department may insist you still attend Parents Evenings, trainings etc), Personally, neither worked for me as I didn’t want to work 5 days a week. Therefore, I chose to work part-time after my sweet son was born & split my week taking Wednesday off. Loved it!

I went part time 3 days and 10% ppa at home when I choose (primary) and works so well for us. Was very lucky my school was open to trying it. I was very open in talking to school before I went on maternity my thought process and spoke to them as early as I could once maternity started .

I went back to work part time after having my son (4 days and half hour earlier finish on a Friday to do the school run) instead of teaching my own class I covered PPA and had interventions. Suited me as less stress but now having my daughter I'm going to ask to do 3 days. 1 thing they said was I had to work Wednesdays as they are staff meeting evenings and I needed to be flexible for training days. I had Mondays off but if a teachers training day I had to come in.

I went back 4days a week. Its possible, just be organised with home and work life

Thank you for sharing. I doubt this will be an option for me just yet as I plan to begin my teacher training when I return to work in September - not too sure how I will manage with the separation from my little girl but I suppose the sooner I get it done the better it will work out for my family

I have done 3 half days amd a full day then I now do 3 days and have done for 2 years. X
