Child support

My husband seems to think that if he combines both my income and his on his child support that it would lower . Bm and her husband have combined their finances . Although step father is currently only claiming unemployment so their temporary “needs” of increased child support is short term . Does anyone have any insight on this ?

From my experience, and it could depend on states, if anything it'll make it go higher. If you combine your income and your making way more money then bm then the court will "match" the number and could raise your child support cause they can be like "oh, your making more money and they are barely scraping by". Something like that. Now, like I said it's not always cut and dry like that. Depends on your court system, your state and how the proceedings all go down. 🤷🏼‍♀️ but thats my personal experience with my husband and second hand experience watching my brother go through all that.

@Brianna that’s what I was thinking and in my head it doesn’t make sense . We’re not against helping more financially but I can’t help but feel like that’s not fair . Bm and her husband have a lower cost of living so yes there jobs pay less . Husband and I live in a larger city so yes we get paid more but our bills are literally double but she doesn’t see it that way

Arizona court here. My husband had to report my income, however it was not used. The child is my husbands responsibility not mine.

So i believe thats where the "depends" come in. I belive they will take into account your living expenses, your financial situations and stuff like that before deciding to raise or lower. That's why I say it's not all cut and dry bc there are factors that could benefit or hinder you. It all depends on what judge you get honestly.

Umm that doesn’t make sense that including more income would make him pay less 🙄 and if it were me, I wouldn’t be contributing my income to support a child outside of my household that I didn’t help create.

More income always means you pay more

@Priscilla may I ask why he had to report your income ?

@Jasmine trust me I know . Bm chooses to work part time . I work 45+ hours a week to try and provide for my own

@Naj exactly what I was thinking
