I got this after my sweep with my first. You will know when you're in actual labour. If you're unsure, you're not in actual labour yet but your body is getting ready. If they get more frequent tightenings then start tracking with one of those contraction timer apps
I didnt think I was in labour with my first got to hospital and was 4cm
@Sona I’m not entirely sure people do know when they’re in early labour though. Some do, some don’t. Much like the comment below!
ftm, I didn't think I was in labour but waters broke, went to triage and was monitored, told I wasn't in labour based on the monitor but to wait for a doctor. I was in so much pain I said if this isn't labour I don't think I can do the real thing .. doctor came 1hr later to do an exam, I was 9cm and another hour later my baby boy was here. First time you don't always know, it didn't feel anything like I thought labour would, but ring the hospital and they will help and tell you to come in if they think you need to
Thinking back to my first labour, it was pretty clear to me. But it might be that my memory is a bit blurry! It was definitely clear after a short while because I was in actual pain rather than just discomfort. But now at 40+ weeks with my 2nd, I'm not entirely sure if what I'm having are BH, baby moving, wishful thinking or actually early contractions 😉 Only time can tell! X
If you're not sure then phone and discuss with triage midwife, good luck
I was really confused about this for my first pregnancy as well, but automatically knew when I started having contractions! Have you her Braxton Hicks at all? You’ll feel something similar to period pains; lower abdomen, tummy muscles will feel tight & lower back hurts constantly. The tightening & pelvis pressure sure sound like early labour! Baby moving is more like shifting pressure in the tummy. Hope all goes well 🫶🏻
