Traveling with Frugal Friends

Hi moms! Our friends are supposed to join us in our state and vacation. However we told them we are planning a vacation around our son’s birthday at the same time. We invited friends to join us and they happily agreed. Now, these are hubs friends and I’ve noticed they are VERY frugal, like ordering cheapest thing on the menu and sharing it frugal. I told them we are looking at all inclusives and they asked what places, we mentioned Mexico and Hawaii (Not inclusive) they looked at where we wanted to stay in Mexico and said it was too expensive. So now we are looking at Hawaii and we want to stay at a nice resort as we work hard and play hard and can also afford to plus it’s our LOs bday. It went from resorts to airbnbs on various random islands. I know they are frugal folks and I’m not sure what to do. We want the works, they are frugal. Not sure how to approach this?

Are you paying or are they paying for themselves? If the later, I'd make separate plans. Book what you want and let them decide if they want to do the same plan or book a nearby cheaper option. It's really hard to plan a joint trip if you have different budgets/traveling styles, so I think it's much easier to make a plan yourself, provide it, and give them the option to join you for all or as much as they can!

@JL We said we would split the cost so they could also come 😵‍💫 otherwise, they cannot afford it.

Ah, ok. When we were planning a group trip like that once, we found options where the base price was something everyone could afford but we could upgrade if we wanted and cover 100% of the upgrade (like staying in the same hotel but paying for the fancier suite, booking a balcony room on the same cruise, etc.). Maybe you can do something like that?

@JL That’s a great idea! We’ll look into this, thank you!
