Flying with low lying placenta

Hey I just need some advice from other people who have experienced the same. I’m 23 weeks pregnant, when I go away to Spain I will be 27 weeks going and 28 weeks going back. I have a low lying placenta and the midwife said she doesn’t recommend flying. I have had this holiday booked for ages and it’s a lot of money. I’m waiting to see a doctor to talk about it more. The 20 week scan showed it was mild not covering my cervix. I was just wondering if anyone has been on holiday with this and how did it turn out?

I had some early issues with breathing which they said they could rule out if it was a blood clot or not. They did the test but inaccurate as pregnant. They suggested I don’t fly either, so had to change some plans and can’t travel with work. The way I looked at it, was it worth the risk and for me personally no it isn’t? Money can be replaced … Hope the DR can shed more light for you

I have a low lying placenta too (15mm, anterior) and they haven't mentioned not flying 🤔 I am 24 weeks now and hoping to travel to Mauritius maybe returning as late as 32 weeks.. I'll have to look into it and ask obstetrician/midwife 🫠

I had a low lying placenta at the 20 week scan and flew at 26/27 weeks pregnant. It was absolutely fine, but I hadn’t had any bleeding or anything prior to that, if I had, I probably wouldn’t have risked it.

I have low-lying placenta and nothing was mentioned about flying. By 28 weeks, it’s very likely you won’t be low lying anymore as your uterus grows.

I have low lying placenta 0.6cm from cervix and have booked a private scan for next week to see if it has moved as I’m due to fly to Crete at 30 weeks. If it’s still low lying I won’t be going, check your terms and conditions as if we cancel 30 days before flight we get money back minus deposit. The thought of having my baby abroad is what doesn’t sit well with me! My midwife said she wouldn’t be concerned if it was more then 4cm away from cervix as we are flying short haul.

@Hannah low lying and no fly is closer than this, mine is 0.4mm so I’m no fly rule. I think it depends how close…

Essentially if you fly under the no fly advice your insurance is not valid. So should anything happen when you are away, you will have no cover and will need to pay. Also the care won’t be as good and you put yourself at risk. I’ve been no fly from the day I found out I was pregnant due to high risk, and I just wouldn’t even consider doubting their opinion on this

I had a low lying placenta in my last pregnancy everything was fine & I delivered normal I’m not sure about flying though but I personally couldn’t see why it’d make a difference
