The first year my daughter got sick every month. It was almost like clockwork and I contemplated quitting my job multiple times because it was unbearable. Now we are on her second year and I can say it has gotten much better. In the winter she gets sick more often, once about every 2 months and in the summer rarely, maybe 1. Dose up on vitamins and let his immune system adapt to all the germs. If it’s not now, you will go through the same once he goes to school. There’s no way around it.
For the first year from Sept to April, my daughter got sick every 2 weeks. It gets better for the second winter! Hang in there! I had to call in sick for myself 5 times in the first six months.
I’m ready to rip my hair out and had a breakdown last night. @Joanne how did you cope? My in the last 4 weeks, my son has only been well for 1 week! He had gastroenteritis the first week, then my whole family got it. The second week after he had been back at daycare for two days he ended up with a fever for 3 days (goes through this every 2 weeks) then he was fine for 1 whole week at daycare only for him to get sick over the weekend with a severe fever and wheezing so bad I was scared to death and I could see the panic on his face. In this time we had 2 outbreaks at our daycare, one for gastro and another for hand, foot and mouth disease!
Hii, not sure if this helps but my son's toddle years was robbed by covid. He only spent 1 week in daycare and then covid happend. When he started Jk, he was getting sick nonstop. Half his class would rotate in being sick and it felt like we were bringing him back just to get a new virus. It was very challenging the first year bc we would all get sick constantly. Sk, got better and now that he's in grade 1, its night and day. I think its just the process of building their immune system
@Irish thank you so much for sharing that. I’m just frustrated and heartbroken for my baby. He’s 19 months and he’s been sick so much and in the hospital 9 times. I started to look for a new daycare…is there any chance that it’s just the location he is at and another daycare might be better? My boss has never had her child stay home so she can’t relate to my issues. She’s been patient but seeing how her child is never sick at the same age I wonder what goes through her mind.
My son started in in October and has pretty much been sick since October 🤦🏼♀️ bronchitis, hand food and mouth, pink eye and mush of a hassle it is I've come to understand kids are gross and lick everything 😭
@Kyla this has kind of been my experience
So I’m a daycare mom and a daycare worker And tru at me when I say this is totally normal unfortunately as a lot of parents just like you can not keep their children home all the time when they are sick those children infect others and goes through a room very quickly no matter how much we clean disinfect their is always always always someone sick in the classroom. I do find it get a little better in the summer but there is the odd sickness then aswell. It’s also not just the kids that get sick it’s the teachers aswell.
My child has been in daycare for 1.5 years. Attendance is over 95 percent. I found that giving multivitamin daily with zinc helped a lot. After the first 2.5 months severe illnesses were rare or just minor colds.
