Hey My little one had his 2 weeks ago, and i mentioned it to him as I didn't want him to feel like I had tricked him, i think this did help a bit. He was not happy when they did it but soon as we left there he was fine and has been since. I also brought a toy he had been asking for for ages and gave it to the nurse to give to him. He had only just started trusting the doctors, so I didn't want that to experience to ruin it xx
Hi! My son really likes understanding why things happen, so we spent some time before his appointment talking about why we get them and how they help keep us healthy. We watched a few child friendly videos, some that explained the science behind vaccines and others that showed kids going through the process. We also role played with his toys to make it feel familiar. I talked him through the process including the before and after, so he knew what to expect and felt supported. I mainly focused on how short the pain is ie. just a moment and then it’s finished like biting your tongue etc. and how to take deep calming breaths and squeeze the bear he picked out to bring. He did cry a bit but calmed down quickly, overall it went really well and we celebrated with ice cream afterwards. He was a bit sore at bedtime as they were on his arms
Mine had his on Tuesday and he was absolutely fine after, just one sore arm! We told him a few days before his appointment what would happen and this really helped.
Mine had hers 2 weeks ago. I was so surprised! Nurse told me to fold my arms around her and hold her tight, which I did. She was staring at the needle, told me 'that's a long needle mommy', it went in and she didn't even flinch! By the time the nurse did the second one, I wasn't even holding her and it was done. No crying at all! We did roleplay beforehand. She has a drs set, so we did the temp check, ear check aaahhh, stetoscope and a pretend needle in both arms. She did me and I did her. I pushed in the fake syringe hard so she can sort of get used to it. She said ouch then pushed it in my arm harder and we both laughed. I took chocolate marshmallows with as well as her drs set. She wore het jacket and listened to the nurses heart with her stethoscope. I think all of that really helped! My friends daughter was apparently histerical after the 1st injection and inconsolable for 2 hrs afterwards. My Lo made not a peep! Good luck! You've got this.
Our little boy had them last Thursday and even mentioning going to the doctors he was not happy so I didn't bring it up again. We were lucky in that there were two nurses so they did both at the same time and it got it over and done with in one hit. He was really upset initially but was back to his normal energetic self as soon as we got home and other than a sore arm, has been fine.
Thanks everyone. A friend has also recommended a programme called Bing as they have an episode focusing on vaccinations. I’ve just put this on here incase anyone is reading
My boy had it this morning, and I didn’t mention it at all, I just said we need to go doctor. He hates GP/hospitals etc so I knew if I said something I would not even leave the house with him. But tbh he took it so well and being so brave. He got his first, and didn’t realise it and then got the second one and start crying and as soon we was out he was all fine. Took him to park and for ice cream after so he doesn’t think about it and he’s absolutely okay so far.
My little boy had his on Wednesday. I didn’t mention it to him before hand because I knew I wouldn’t even get him through the door (but you know your own child so do whatever you think is best) He was actually so brave(he’s usually abit of a wuss when it comes to literally anything so I was really apprehensive) My top tip would be to take someone else with you a grandparent if one of available. My little boy adores his nanny and it really seemed to help that she was there with us. He was his usual self afterwards and has been ever since xx
