Sickness Frequency in Daycares

For those of you who have little ones in daycares how frequently do they get sick. My son who is 23 months seems to get sick with something every month. This month it’s Hands Foot and Mouth disease. Of course my 10 months old got it but surprisingly I have it too. I’m really frustrated and I’m on a waitlist for a new daycare. However is this just normal or are some daycares cleaner and more preventative?

Normal in the beginning. He'll have the Same issues at another daycare most likely. Eventually his immune system will catch up.

Thank you

The first year or two my kiddo was in daycare he would get sick very frequently. He started at 5 months is now 3. J would say in the past 6 months it’s slowed down a bit as his immune system gets stronger. It’s so frustrating and challenging - and, it’s a normal part of the process. If you’re really concerned, you can ask them about their cleaning protocols and see how this compares to other places.

Yes, about once a month sounds right, but some daycares are better about cleaning than others. Also, if your daycare is smaller that helps. Last winter my daughter ended up with only 4 other girls in her toddler class somehow and she didn’t catch anything for three months, it was glorious. 😂
