Infant Gaviscon

I've been prescribed infant Gaviscon as my 9w old is a little refluxy. It's not too bad but he has symptoms like occasional spit up, quite unsettled after some feeds and lots of hiccups. I've read it can cause constipation, has anyone else experienced this? I'm basically trying to weigh up whether it's worth giving it to him, it seems like it might just create another and potentially worse problem

My little boy is 9 weeks and on gaviscon. Yes it is very possible it’ll make him constipated. We have had to introduce it slowly and monitor. He is up to 4 sachets a day now. His initial constipation did get better after a day or so but it’s a balance for us, don’t want to treat one problem and cause a worse one x

Did it improve the reflux?

A little I’d say. Not massively so far. We have just upped to 4 sachets a day so fingers crossed. Other people have great results tho x

My baby was px gaviscon at 6 weeks cuz of bad reflux. To be very honest, the first week, it seemed to be working. When I say working, she’d throw up 3 times, after a feed, instead of 5. She got mildly constipated and I started taking laxatives to help. After two weeks on gaviscon, we stopped giving it cuz it didn’t make a massive difference. Instead, we stopped burping her by patting and started rubbing her back. She still throws/spits up but it’s not as bad as before. We’re now waiting it out as we didn’t want to give medication that didn’t 100% eradicate the problem.

Have you tried a thickner, you can get carobel -cow and gate prescribed by the doctor, my little boy was chucking up a lot and they said they would put him on this before trying the gaviscon route and it has been an absolute game changer- he’s so much happier and is settled, like a different baby altogether-you can buy it on amazon, but if you go back to the doctors they should prescribe it to you xxx

That's interesting, so my little one doesn't so much have spit up but just seems very uncomfortable, winces and squirms after eating, the whole feeding process is hard tbh, he gasps for air we have to be really careful. He's on 0 teats, I'm debating trying him on the Dr Browns preemie teats before going down the Gaviscon route. I'm a bit lost, I know something isn't quite right but I don't know what
