Postpartum hypertension

My blood pressure crept up in the last week of pregnancy and then I gave birth and then I was sent back up to the hospital a couple of times after birth as it hadn’t gone back down and eventually put on 200mg of labetalol twice a day. I was weaned off of them after 3 weeks. Fast forward to now and at a check up my blood pressure is high so have to have more tests. The top number is always fine but the bottom number is always between 80-100. Never suffered previously with blood pressure nor in my last pregnancy and it never developed to pre eclampsia. Has anyone else suffered with blood pressure issues this far after birth that has sorted itself out?

I had a planned home birth with my little boy. All went well. Two days later I was admitted for 4 days with hypertension that they couldn’t get under control. I ended up on Labetalol 4 x a day and Enalipril once a day. Two weeks after discharge and I developed mastitis. On all those Bp meds plus an infection plummeted by blood pressure to the point where I was unable to stand up without fainting. I took the decision to stop taking the medication and regularly check my Bp at home (I’m a HCP anyway) but after check ups after that with the GP they kept me off the meds and I’ve not had any symptoms since 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Kayleigh I only went back to the drs as been having aura migraines and hadn’t even considered my blood pressure until she checked it and now I’m wondering if it’s been high ever since the dr weaned me off my meds at 4 weeks pp 🤦🏼‍♀️. On a good day it’s around 110/85 and when it creeps up it sits around 130/100. I hate being on medication so I’m praying it settles and isn’t a permanent thing 🥴

It should settle hopefully! The fact that’s it goes down is a good thing! The 110/85 is great… it’s as soon at the top goes over 140 or the bottom over 90 that they intervene with pregnancy / post partum. You were absolutely correct to go back with the headaches though! Hope it settles soon for you! Congratulations on becoming a mum again btw! Xx

i’m the exact same as you except they’ve kept me on 1 tablet a day now and then i go back in a few weeks to check doctor said can take 6 months to go back down otherwise it’s here for long run x
