Eczema, nothing working!

My little girl is 17 weeks and has had eczema for about 7 weeks now, on her stomach, arms, legs and now on her head. Tried natural remedies and 2 prescription emollients and nothing is working, it is just getting worse! She is constantly trying to scratch at it😩 Asked the health visitor if changing milk would help and she said no as it doesn’t appear to be an allergy. Should I change washing tabs? Any cream recommendations? Any advice would be great!

Hello lovely my little girl is 10 months now and she was exactly the same. My HV and GP were a bit useless and so I decided to eliminate possible triggers myself. We use non-bio pods. Fairy was aggravating for my little girl so switched to Persil. We use 100% cotton sheets and bedding. Hoovering daily and use humidifier. We top and tail her as she is extremely sensitive to water. Although we did the above. I also cut out dairy as I BF and I noticed a difference within a couple of weeks. Turned out she has a dairy and egg allergy which triggered her eczema the most. With regards to creams. We tried A LOT. She either reacted to them or made zero difference. We were prescribed steroid but I’ve been hesitant to use this and have instead stuck to using hydromol and Lush’s dream cream. This has maintained her skin. She will get the occasional dry patch/spots if she is unwell, on antibiotics, teething etc. Hope this helps. Happy for you to message me if you need to xx

Alsooooo!!!! Scratch sleeves!!! Amazing thing ever for my little girl as she is also scratching a lot. They are much more gentle xx

I’ve been using fairy too, definitely going to switch to see if it helps. Yes, it definitely flares up after a bath too! I am finding that the creams just don’t make any improvement but I am also very reluctant to use steroid based creams as she’s so young. She is currently teething, I hadn’t considered that that may be contributing! Thank you so much! Xx

Have you tried an ointment instead of cream? How many times a day do you apply it? I was told by a dermatologist to apply about 6 times a day. My boy had a dairy allergy which triggered it so it might be worth cutting out dairy & see if it improves xx

- Switch to laundry liquid instead of using powder, and add in extra rinses. We use Ecover zero and wash at 60degrees (to get rid of the sticky ointment) - ScratchSleeves 100%! - Ointment every nappy change, you should go through a tub of 500g in a week - Remove any soft teddies, cot mobiles and hoover often. Open windows in the mornings - Avoid creams with oats for the time being as she may be intolerant to it - Do you have pets? Might be worth to keep them separate as a test. Or invest in a air purifier - Do you have mould at home? - 100% cotton clothes, and keep her cool, room temperature not too warm. Sorry just throwing it all at you, my LG is 10 months now and she’s been through the thick of severe eczema. Hers is currently under control for now, but there’s lots of triggers and we just learn to accept and control the flare with creams 🫠

Btw I recommend in following some Facebook groups such as Erasing Eczema, amazing information out there!

@Gina currently using an ointment, I apply it every nappy change! Yes I keep hearing it could be a dairy allergy, thank you! Xx

@Emma thank you for all the advice I will definitely be trying everything! I can imagine it’s been so difficult, I am hoping to try and get on top of it before it gets any worse but know it can be a lot of trial and error to find what works! Xx
