Baby Hives

Maaaaan where do I start. My baby is 10 months old. Since the new year has started she’s been in and out of either hospitals, walk in clinics or her pediatrician’s office. She’s been getting back to back ear infections. Now back in mid April she randomly woke up swollen, crying and itching. (at the time she was on amoxicillin for ear infection) Brought her to a walk in clinic they ruled out she had hives but because of it being first time they just said give baby Benadryl and follow up with pediatrician. Next day I took her to her pediatrician’s office they told me the same and advised me to just keep track of what she’s consuming to see any triggers. Fast forward to last week my daughter again had a double ear infection. They prescribed amoxicillin for 10 days. Yesterday I called the pediatrician’s office because the pharmacy did not give me enough antibiotic for her. Her last dose would’ve been tomorrow (Saturday) nurse advised that we just schedule an appointment instead for her ears to check how they are doing. I told her I’d call back because I had to turn my work schedule around. Hours later (same day) daycare calls me that my daughter broke out in HIVES again. I picked her up she has a rash but nothing too major as the first time around. Next day she woke up the same. Gave her baby Benadryl and sent her to daycare. Called her pediatrician scheduled an appointment for her. When I picked her up from daycare her rash was worse. Swollen feet and hands no itching accompanied or fever. Pediatrician took a look at her and ruled out that the amoxicillin is the only thing different in her diet and that’s what’s causing the rash. Mind you she’s been amoxicillin since the new year started because of her back to back ear infections. Because no swelling in face lips or tongue. She advised just give her baby Benadryl and keep an eye out for new symptoms/ rash. I cried all the way home because I hate seeing my baby going through what she’s going through. Any momma’s went through hives period with their babies? How was the experience? Any tips on home remedies for baby hives? ALSO.. one of her ears looked a little red but her pediatrician did not want to give her any medication.. she wants to give my baby’s body a break from medication. At what point will they refer her to an ear specialist because this is not normal. My other children had ear infections but nothing back to back like my baby now. ☹️

I hate you’re going through this but you’re doing an amazing job momma….my daughter is 10 months too and hasn’t had the hives but has had back to back ear infections were actually heading in today for a recheck of ears but after a few cycles of amoxicillin we were then prescribed something different and stronger…all that being said I do know that amoxicillin does cause rashes in some kiddos

The antibiotics are destroying her gut and that can be causing hives. Even though she could handle the amoxicillin before it doesn’t mean she can’t develop an intolerance. She needs to be on a good probiotic and hopefully a break from ear infections and antibiotics

@Brittany thank love 🫶🏼 sending virtual hugs. 🫂 hopefully your little one is doing better.

Getting a referral to an allergist may be the next best move 🙏 fellow food allergy mom and seasonal allergy sufferer. Not saying this is food allergies but my baby was getting mild hives on and off we couldn't sort out.. Then we started solids. Turns out he was having delayed food allergy reactions through my breastmilk and we landed in the ER after him directly trying eggs and cheese one morning (2hrs later) Seasonal allergies are high right now, I've learned we have an 'allergy bucket'. Being sick, hot, more allergen exposures, etc etc can all tip the scales to a reaction. You can also develop an allergy at any time - even to things you've handled successfully before. Joining an 'food allergy moms' Facebook group and getting into a modern allergist has helped us tremendously. They have helped us create a strategy to narrow in on triggers.
