Curious if anyone has ever smoked while breastfeeding.

Currently breastfeeding and have been thinking about smoking but haven’t yet. Before I got pregnant I was a pretty regular smoker so having a huge debate about it in my mind curious how many people have or do. People drink while breastfeeding and just do pump and dump so curious if you have what did you do come feeding time?

I smoke and breastfed. It’s recommended to wait at least an hour after smoking to feed directly, but I generally would pump milk first and then smoke so she’d still have fresh milk to drink within that hour period. Also just wash hands and maybe change shirts afterwards

i did. pump and dump didn’t make sense to me because weed stays in your system for so long. i think in moderation it’s fine, my daughter is 2.5 now and is perfectly on track/no issues. always wash your hands/mouth after

I would avoid it just to be safe

6 days to get out of your system. You’re giving your baby THC if you smoke and then breastfeed.

the amount of chemicals from the weed that gets into your milk is a very very small percentage, and at that point it is no longer psychoactive

@Izzie how often did you smoke? And how old was your baby?

@Zii how often do you smoke and how old was your baby when you started?

pretty regularly. i started at around 1 month PP

I smoke pretty often but not much in quantity, maybe just a couple hits when I started again. Baby was probably a few weeks old.

I’ve been smoking since I had my son. I don’t pump and dump and I don’t wait x amount of hours for him to feed. I smoke often and he feeds on demand. I do wash my hands and change my clothes tho. My son is 4 months old and is currently hitting and exceeding ALL his milestones.

I make sure to feed / pump right before then wait 2-3 hours or at least till I don’t feel the effects anymore before I pump or feed again. I also wash my hands, brush my teeth & change my shirt before being with my baby again. 😊 I also use only hemp wraps!

@Shore loud and wrong.

Was it loud because it wasn’t what you wanted to hear? Because I don’t type any louder than you.

@Shore it was loud because you posted on a public platform. It’s wrong because you’re wrong. So you’re loud and wrong

I miss weed sooo much

@De'zha , I’ve done the research and yeah it takes 6+ days for it to no longer be detected in your milk. However, that depends on the quantity and quality you smoke.In one study some moms even tested positive for THC in their milk for a few weeks. Otherwise I’d be partaking right now. THC loves fat and that’s what it hitches a ride on in your milk. Your body processes a lot of it out, but your baby still gets some if you feed after smoking. No judgements if you do. I would but I’m respecting her father’s wishes.
