#35 Mommy Why The Textured Hair Aisle?

Hello Momma Bears, I made this blog so that we could share in our experiences with one another pertaining touchy topic we’ve had to confront with our children. I ask that we all share in our experiences and be opened to positive responses. So if your story is, my parents walked away from my biracial child or that you’ve had to explain uncomfortable topic with your children about your spouse/partner, etc please share. Today my topic is, why is everything so divided. Even in hair care, anyone notice the “texture” aisle by the pads and tampons in Walgreens.... why is that? Those of us from the US witness these types of aisle often. When my child ask I had no response... What would you say?

Oh wow my walgreens isn't like that all the hair products are together. However I would tell my daughter your hair is just like your clothes you have to wear the thing that fits you. So just like clothes hair comes in all different shapes, sizes, textures and etc. You have to use the best things for your hair to keep your hair strong and healthy.

Wow I love that! This is interesting, I wonder why it’s different in different locations...

Hm. I really like this question. I will have to make time one day soon to take a trip around the store and point these things out to my kid so I can elaborate on what "structural racism" looks like. (Even though they don't fully understand it yet, because they haven't experienced anything first hand, nor witnessed it first hand, I make effort to explain it to them, because I was raised in a racist household, and didn't really realize it till my first crush(who happened to be a POC) and all the reality of my families racism came crashing down on me.

If it is not "structural racism", and is actually more in a different class, please enlighten me, so that I may correct myself. Thank you
