C-Section Prep

Hey everyone. I’m scheduled for my cesarian birth this Friday. I’d like to know what you ladies did to mentally and physically prepare. Are there certain must have items to help with recovery? How did you mentally prepare or accept the situation? I will admit, I am not looking forward to it as it feel doctors treat it like an operation (which it is) and not like a birthing experience, so I’m struggling with feeling robbed of that experience. They told me I won’t get to hold her right away, partner can’t cut the cord because it’s surgery, no clear drape ect. Thank you 🙏🏾

You can still have a birth plan. My previous elective they put him straight onto my chest only for a few seconds but it was still enough. Then bubs dad was with him until I was in recovery maybe 15 mins and he was on my chest

I’m sorry you feel robbed mama 😭My second c section was so beautiful! They played music of my choice in the OR and were so kind and supportive. I also asked ahead of time for the dr to bring the baby around before wrapping her up so I could see what she looked like with all the gooey stuff/ vernix. We took a picture of the doc holding her freshly birthed! It was also a surprise gender which made is more special for us. We did skin to skin in the OR- I’m sorry that your hospital won’t let you, maybe ask again??

@Sandra I was told no when I asked if she can be put onto my chest right away. They said no because I could drop her, they said her father can bring her close to me but then she will be given to the nurses to be checked. So I’m not sure how to fight for what I want.

I didnt hold him they held him onto me my arms were still held done on the side of the bed. Write down what you want. You may not get it, which is the shitry part. Im having another elective in March And my only thing is once bubs is checked and moved out hubby can hold her until im there

@Sandra ok, I understand now. You’re right, doesn’t hurt to try! Thank you

If you haven’t already, invest in some comfortable high waisted underwear and lounge pants! Also a good belly band to help you feel supported, pillow for comfort, and ice/hot pack. Mentally, just prepare to need a lot of help! I hate asking for things and it was so hard to have to ask someone to help me up or bring me my baby. Take as many pictures as you can during your surgery, I passed out and don’t remember most of it but the pictures and videos make all the difference.

@Courtney D thank you so much! This was helpful. Is there a belly band you recommend? How long did it take for you to be able to get up and move around without help?

I got mine from my insurance company so I have no idea if there’s a better one out there, maybe try searching Amazon. It took me about 2 solid weeks before I could really move around without pain. Definitely don’t try and sneeze or laugh or cough without holding a pillow to your stomach. I did and I about lost my mind it hurt so much. And they don’t tell you the amount of gas you have after is insane 😂 so beware of that too

@Courtney D no one has mentioned the gas to me! Lol 😂 2 weeks isn’t so bad, I thought it might be longer. How did your scar heal? Did it heal nicely?

Everyone is different when it comes to their movement though, by best friend had one a few weeks before me and she needed 3 weeks 🤷🏼‍♀️ So far it’s not bad and my doctor cleared me to start using those silicone scar treatments so hopefully that helps minimize it’s appearance
