are the NHS fear mongering me into having a natural birth?

I am pregnant with my second baby and had an emergency c section with my first baby due to negligence from the NHS in the first place. It was really traumatic as I laboured to 10cm before having to be put to sleep for the c section. Because I had such a bad experience I wanted a planned c section this time round which I was hoping would be a more relaxed situation. Well I just got this letter through and I feel like I’m being scared into having a natural birth by the way they’re wording the benefits and risks for both ways! Now I’m absolutely terrified either way!!! Can someone who’s had a repeat c section please give me some reassurance

That sheet aside, you do what YOU want for you 🥰

@Emma I want to not die 😅😅

There's a risk with everything that we do. Do what is best for you, your baby & your wellbeing. Best Wishes x

I've recently had a planned csection after 2 emergencies and I loved it, it was so relaxed I had music on had a laugh with everyone, got to hold baby straight away it was great. I'd say there are more positives than just 1 to a cesarean. Also with a planned section there's extra prep they do to you to help prevent infection too x

@Vicky yeah I feel like they only put the one down to stop me from wanting to do it! It’s actually annoyed me

@Nicky it’s how it’s worded! The risks for vaginal birth come with a “but” and the risks for c section are just like “death”💀

Honestly @Demi do what you feel is right, it doesn't automatically mean a long hospital stay after planned c section I stayed 1 night and was happily home the next day. It being planned makes a huge difference if that's what you want

@Vicky with my first c section I was home the next day!

Throw it away. You know the risks and benefits, your birth has to be your choice! I had an elective section and it was beautiful, stress-free, no issues. I’m thankful every day I made that decision in September 👍

Geez...imo they dont half put a "spin" on it. Where's all the other risks and downsides to vaginal birth? You won't see these listed 🙄 Tearing to various degrees Forceps/vontouse Shoulder dystocia Fecal/urinary incontinence Prolapse Fetal distress In the UK it is your choice, no medical reason necessary. An elective will be very different to your emergency. Electives are fab! No stress, no exhaustion, no pain... to me it beats having to experience any of the above. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9536923/Women-plan-C-section-no-likely-suffer-poor-outcomes.html

If I saw this letter before I had my c sec I would have been terrified! What a horrible thing to do! I honestly had a great experience with my c section & it was planned. You do what your heart is telling you to do!

I think you'll find it's something that they're legally obliged to do. They have to inform but you can opt for planned. Its because c-section is a major surgery it says all that in the forms you sign to have one aswell.

@Sam everyone says about signing a form but when I had my first emergency I was rushed to theatre and put to sleep without signing anything, not sure if that’s because it was super urgent

My sis has an emergency c-section a few years back. Similar to yours, being put to sleep, etc. It was horrendous and I'm not sure she is over it even now. Late last year she had a planned c-section. She said it was amazing! Relaxed, cuddled the baby, the section cut was much better as was more planned, healed quicker and the scar iss neater. She found everything about the recovery easier.

@Demi probably or they had your partner sign it. You normally get a copy of it

@Sam they didn’t even know where my partner was! They sent him downstairs and when I woke up off the anaesthetic and the baby had been born I had to get them to go and find him

@Demi oh probably because it was an emergency. My emergency section was more because my contractions was inconsistent and after 30 hours my body wasn't going past 6cm . I did haemorrhage in theatre though . They read all the complications out to me before surgery. I'm pretty sure my sister got the same letter when she had her second because they're trying to promote VBAC as alot of people can do it but get put off. You choose what you want and feel comfortable with.
