Midwives brew?

How does everyone feel about this drink! I know it contains castor oil so I’m very skeptical about it & wouldn’t want to risk potential harm to my baby! However some people say their is no bad effects to it & they think it’s a great way to self induce and to get your labor started! If I were to do it I would probably try the smoothie blended without castor oil! & see where it would go from there

Definitely skip the caster oil unless you want diarrhea

Talk to your ob some won't let you do it at all others say wait til after 40 weeks. But personally I would skip anything with castor oil. In my opinion it's too risky

Yeah castor oil is super bad and you don’t want to be dehydrated and bad for your milk supply if you do get dehydrated

I did this to induce labor because my water broke and then there were no signs of contractions starting for many many hours. Labor began like an hour after I drank it. No diarrhea, but a lot of projectile vomiting probably also due to the pain.

@Samantha see yea! This is what I need ! Did you add the castor oil ? I think I will try it without it first

If using only 1-2 tablespoons of castor oil, your less of a risk of severe dehydration and diarrhea. Of course there’s always a risk to anything you drink so be aware but this specific brew is recommended by many midwives and doulas. Castor oil has a better chance of getting labor going when you’re past due and/or your waters have broken but labor hasn’t started. Midwives brew isn’t the tastiest drink which is probably a reason why you hear it’s associated with vomiting however you can add 1-2 tablespoons of castor oil into a smoothie with almond butter.
