I was there a week ago and although I was unable to use it was open and a lady next to me on the ward had a water birth x
@Christy I so wanna go pinderfields but I don’t know how to go about changing hospitals
@Kirsty just tell your midwife, you can give birth wherever you chose 😀
I’ve not given birth yet, and don’t plan a water birth but I’d ask when it’s open and what circumstances you couldn’t use it. Don’t let them just brush it off and get a full explanation of the what’s and why’s. If you want to give birth at Pinders speak to your midwife and ask how you go about giving birth there instead. Can’t imagine why you wouldn’t be able to x
@Christy I said to mine about pinderfields and she said we assume you’ll be giving birth here
@Jessica they said lack of staff means it can’t be open all the time :( when I mentioned it cos they have an amazing labour ward she just said she’d assume I’ll be giving birth at royal and then brushed it off tbh, I don’t want to give birth there I’ve had bad experiences there and hate going to that hospital anyway x
@Kirsty yeah they will naturally pick your closest location if you don’t specify otherwise but you can move hospitals/trusts at anytime.
I gave birth there 4 weeks ago and used the birthing pool. Facilities and staff were great
I tried to have a water birth there. Every time I asked for the pool they said it was available and acted like they were going to get it then just never got it. 😅
I'd definitely chose a different hospital. I really recommend the LGI. Really easy to get to too x
I don't think there's any guarantee anywhere you go! I had my baby at Calderdale and honestly couldn't fault them, I wanted to use the birthing centre, but it was closed the day I was in labour due to lack of staff, but I had a midwife from the birthing centre and she got me a room with a pool, which I used but didn't give birth in. They only have so many pools so I guess it depends how many women are in giving birth 🤷 I had my first at pinderfields and there was no comparison imo. Calderdale was miles better in terms of care
Also, if they meant the birthing centre isn't always open, that's correct, it depends on staff levels, but they do have pools in the main labour ward, as that's where I gave birth. I'm guessing that's always open so not really sure what they mean by that!
I wanted a pool birth but my midwife did inform me due to staffing it is not always possible due to staff shortages, so the birthing centre isn't always open.
No experience of it at Halifax but I had a water birth at Huddersfield.
No experience but I would chose a different hospital personally if they said that and you have your heart set on a water birth! It’s such a shame the MLU at Dewsbury is shut :(
