C-section - breastfeeding

Hi everyone :) For you that had a c-section could you breastfeed immediately/ did you produce milk? I heard that if you deliver your baby by c-section then the body/brain doesn’t get it immediately and sometimes the contractions can come as well a bit later and as a result milk will come when the brain gets to understand that you delivered your baby … ?

I was induced at 35weeks, ended up having an emergency C-section 4 days later, was only able to produce droplets of milk, tried feeding him and hand expressing but needed to top up with formula… milk never seemed to come in properly so ended up going onto formula exclusively at around 3weeks.

I couldn’t hve baby latch straight away and took me a whole day and a bit to produce colostrum in which I was having to just massage and put baby on the breast every like 20mins or so. Eventually managed a bit and used an electric breast pump in the hospital to help my supply and by day 3 we was producing an ounce which is more than enough per feed

So you produce colostrum until your milk comes in which is usually around day 3/5 sometimes sooner sometimes later but until then the colostrum is more than enough. It’s once the placenta is delivered that triggers your body to start producing milk.

We latched and fed colostrum straight away too. Milk came in 4 days later. I think that’s normal though? X

We were able to latch straight away. It was colostrum only for a couple of days but I'm sure that's normal.

Hello! Yes! I breastfed like 20-30 min after he was born (basically after they moved me from surgery room to the recovery room) and I luckily had a ton of milk, or colostrum at that point. I didn’t have any contractions really because it was a scheduled c section. But it didn’t affect my milk supply! I’m actually an over producer!
