Coccyx Pain

Did anyone else suffer coccyx bruising/fracture/ligament pain during their birth? I’ve had a long birth with baby going back and forth in the birth canal and ever since my tailbone is incredibly painful. I’m really struggling to sit and feed LO and it’s still agony to move from sitting to standing. I’m nearly 5 weeks PP and so it’s really starting to get me down now as it doesn’t seem to be healing. 😣

I have this pain! Tbh I put it down to bad posture while I’m feeding her in bed and on the sofa but come to think of it she was back to back in labour so maybe it’s residual pain from that too! I’m 6 week PP and it’s starting to get better now over the past week or so. Still hurts a bit to go from sat to standing but defo lasting for less time. I think it’s one of those the more you move the less it hurts 🙃

Me too!! No idea what's happened to it. The Dr I spoke to Friday tried to tell me it was due to posture in pregnancy. I said no it feels bashed not strained! Xx

Yep! I have a dodgy coccyx anyway as I’ve fractured it before And think birth has agitated it again! So painful! I find it’s worse if I’m not sitting properly or sat down too long xx

@Amber I’m glad yours is getting a little better now. I hope mine follows suit. I’ve been trying to do walks and bits to keep moving but it’s hard when you have to sit down every 3 hours to feed a baby isn’t it?! 🫠

@Sharna that’s so bad!! My midwife told me it was really quite common for the coccyx to be bruised during birth. I think it’s the case that posture doesn’t help the situation afterwards but if yours is as painful as mine, there’s no way the way I stood or sat in pregnancy caused that 🫠. I’m just desperate for it to start to heal as it’s so painful! Xx

Yes and I've been referred to physio for it and told to get a doughnut cushion to help

@Sarah oh no! I’m the same. Struggling with the sit downs

@Danielle I got a doughnut cushion and found it made it worse for me 😵‍💫

@Erin I ended up buying an orthopaedic one on ebay. It has a hole at the back for your coccyx and is wedged for your back as well because a coccyx injury can effect your back too

@Danielle did this cushion help you?

@Lucie yes it's amazing. My partner has even started using it when I'm not haha

@Danielle wonderful! I will get one ordered! Do you feel like it's getting better each day? I'm 2 days PP, so early days!

@Lucie well, my little boy is 5 weeks old now. I just assumed it would go at first but when I was at the point where it was causing me so much pain that it was dangerous for me to pick up my little one, I spoke to the Dr who referred me to physio. Since then it seems to be getting better. Started physio on 17th March and got my cushion on 19th. It's no where near as painful as it was then but it does still hurt every now and again if I sit down for too long

@Nina I can send you a picture of the list if you wanted?

@Danielle could I see the list too, if possible? I’m still in agony 🥴 x

@Nina I'll send it tomorrow if that's ok

@Erin of course you can, I'll send it tomorrow

This sounds exactly like what I went through with my coccyx - I gave birth in February 2021. Really, really push your GP for an mri and spinal referral. I discovered almost 2 years after giving birth that my coccyx had been dislocated and facing the wrong way the whole time and I’ve had multiple surgeries since and waiting to get it removed now. Im not trying to scare you but i just wish I’d pushed harder sooner because 2 years of this has been horrendous and I wouldn’t want it to last this long for you. So, so many doctors, GPs, midwives, physios, chiropractors told me it was normal/would go away by itself/was all in my head but it wasn’t. I wish I’d trusted my gut because I knew deep down something was really wrong but no one would listen to me. Good luck with your recovery xx
