Bottles

Please don’t judge, my three year old still uses the bottle. How do I get them off it? Is cold turkey the only way?

Cold turkey is the only way that I would honestly go about it. But to do it right you have to get rid of them entirely. Take out the nipples and toss them in the trash. That way YOU don't have a way to cave. I would transition to straws first, but I worry that with silicone baby straws the suction might be too difficult. I'd only do those if kiddo lays down while drinking because they don't spill much. I would skip sippy cups because they're already supposed to not be using those, so you run the risk of attaching them to yet another age inappropriate item. My 3yo is currently using the First Years GreenGrown straw cups from Target. https://www.target.com/p/the-first-years-greengrown-reusable-spill-proof-straw-toddler-cups-purple-teal-3pk-10oz/-/A-82801372 I specifically use them because I'm sick and tired of silicone in cups! They grow mold. And while I can easily keep the straws clean, it's a hassle and there's always other silicone somewhere that has a crevice or whatnot that is hard to keep mold free.

I prefer these recycled cups only from target. They are stiffer so the straws don't get *fully* demolished from chewing. The Walmart ones are more malleable so the straws are very quickly unusable. But because your little is on the bottle I wonder if silicone straws would honestly just be more familiar to their mouth because it can in a way feel like a nipple. Kiddo would be very upset the first day but I promise if you just make it through that first day or two you will have smooth sailing from there. But ONLY if you don't cave. Just mentally prepare yourself with the knowledge that it WILL be a difficult day or two but it WILL end and it's worth it.

I still willingly give my 3yr daughter a bottle for her milk and sippy cup or with a straw for water or juice . Still in the trust system with a cup 😆

I did transition from her bottle to no spill sippy cup with the nipple then now it’s a no spill cup.., It is a Process!!! She still wakes up at 4 am -6am wanting her milk and I am so over it! Told her tonight that if she wakes up she going to go get her cup from the fridge… we shall see!

Cold turkey, but be prepared for resistance. I also wouldn’t do it if there are other things on the schedule (like vacation), if they are sick, or if you have a big change coming up (new baby, potty learning, move, etc). Good luck✨
