West Middlesex hospital or Chelsea and Westminster?

I am 7+4 weeks pregnant and am just getting round to choosing which hospital. Any experiences would be really helpful! X

Enjoyed my experience at West Mid and appreciate they have a separate building exclusively for all things maternity . Feel free to message me with any other questions: )

I’ve had all 3 of my babies at Kingston Maternity. I’ve enjoyed every experience with them. However when I found out West Mid did call me straight away and their midwife home team area amazing :) Congratulations!

I had a terrible experience during labour and birth with West mid, even my after care was terrible. Literally scarred me to the point I don't even want anymore children due to my experience 😭. You get some lovely midwives and some of them are just so rude. I was left alone after I gave birth and after having an epidural and when I rang the bell, the nurse just came and gave me my baby and walked away without saying anything - I was still paralysed and couldn't move from my bed at all. I would not recommend west mid AT ALL. I know other women who have had good experiences and some similar to mine so it's a bit of a hit or miss but personally I would never go there again. On a brighter note, congratulations!

Wouldnt recommend west mid … the post partam care was awful. During pregnancy with midwife appointments and scans etc it was good but once I had the baby it was horrendous

I had a great experience with both West Mid and Chelsea. My initial care was at West Mid, I was admitted to hospital at 28 weeks and was an inpaitent with West Mid for 4 days before I was moved to Chelsea until birth as my son would require their nicu department, as they are "sister" hospitals they work together so care can be split between both as mine was. The midwives and doctors at both were exceptional, I was an inpaitent for a long stretch and they all made a concious effort to make the stay as comfortable as possible for me.

@Zeiba So sorry to hear about this. If you would like to take this further I can put you in touch with the maternity voice partnership team . Its actually one team for West Mid and Chelsea & Westminster as they are under one trust.

@Doreena-Mae Yes they are sister hospitals lovely to hear you had a positive experience : )

I initially wanted to go to Chelsea however they were really strict and said based on my post code, I had to go to West Mid. However, so glad I did in the end. I had a wonderful experience with my c-section, everyone there was super helpful, professional and warm. The whole c-section team were fantastic especially the anaesthesiologist; she was talking me through everything and supporting me through the whole thing. Throughout my pregnancy I was able to just walk in and be seen right away if I was concerned about anything and they did everything to accommodate my needs (I was really anxious throughout). In terms of after care, the breastfeeding team spend as much time with you as you need (maybe a little too much time, sometimes I just wanted to sleep lol). The midwives are readily available if you need them but I don’t think I called on them much except that my husband felt I wasn’t ready to come home and she did push for me to stay an extra night, so that was good.

I will add though, the reason why I was initially pushing for Chelsea is because a family friend said she had the worst experience at West Mid and that put me off. But, it was for sure a positive experience for me. I wish you all the best! Xx

I had a good experience at West Mid and I'd recommend it.

You ladies have been really helpful! Think I’ll go with West Middlesex since its closer and I already have a toddler so I think the closer I am to home, the better. Hopefully it’ll be a pleasant experience. Thank you once again 💕 xx

@Zeiba That sounds horrible! I hope you complained about whoever made this magical time so horrible. Pray this doesn’t happen to you again xx

@Tzaddi Do you go to a different building when giving birth as well? Not the main building? X

I would avoid West Middlesex. They sent me back home when I was contracting with my son 6weeks before he was due then I went to The Royal London Hospital Whitechapel (because I was originally registered there because I just moved here then like 2weeks ago) and I ended up having a Emergency C Section and my Son was in NICU for a week weighing only 2lb 4oz.

I gave birth a week ago at west Middlesex. I had to be induced and the care from the staff was exceptional x
