When is a sweep offered?

Hiya! I’m a FTM & 37 weeks tomorrow! (Eeeeek!!). I’ve thoroughly enjoyed pregnancy but I’m just curious when would a sweep be offered? I’m very anti being induced with hormones/drugs.

Not u til the week before you’re due x

I had an appointment the other day and they said the week before I can have a few sweeps done x

Not sure on the answer but interested to find out!! Is your due date 1st July? If so, mine is too 😁😁 x

@Lex Stilp yeah it is! I’m so bloody excited now! Going to be trying all the old wives tales to induce labour haha x

Mines booked in for 38 weeks x

I got told at my 34 week appt they offer 3 sweeps from 40 weeks

I was due on the 12th of July and I believe they were looking to do one around either the 27th of June or the 10th of July. I do have GD though! X

I’m 36 weeks tomorrow, not had anything mentioned about a sweep yet. I see the midwife Tuesday so will be asking when they start them Xx

If you have no concerns they’ll probably look at offering one around 39+4 x

Think it really depends on each pregnancy and the NHS trust you're under. I've heard so many varying bits of info from 38 weeks to after due date so best to ask your midwife x

It’s not until 40 plus 1, 40 plus 3 and 40 plus 5 with midwife. Up to 3 sweeps offered in the week following your due date. Anything before due date is obstetrics and has a reason why and must be signed off by a doctor.

@Alexandra ahhhh no way 😁😁 I’m also trying everything to naturally induce labour at the moment - I know it’s still early but I’m so ready 🤣🤣 you’ll have to let me know when baby actually comes!! X

Depends entirely on your trust and midwife. Some offer from 37 and others won’t do it until 40 plus - best to ask your midwife!

@Lex Stilp yeah I definitely will! 😁

I think I can recall my midwife saying they offer sweeps from 39 weeks. My pregnancy has been low risk & healthy. I’ll wait & see what she says at my 38 week appointment on Monday 😃 Thanks everyone

You can ask to book some in at your next midwife appointment x I think it’s a week before your due date, I would say book 2 that’s what I did, none of them worked for me but they work for a lot of people and the more the better, if it stops you from having to be induced then great! X

My last pregnancy I was offered a sweep at 40 weeks and I declined as I didn’t feel baby was ready. Then I had a sweep at 41 weeks and another at 41+3 😬😬 went into labour at 41+5 a few hours before I was due to be induced. Baby came early hours of 41+6!! You can probably request a sweep earlier if you have earlier appointments but honestly midwife might look at you a bit funny 😄
