Has anyone refused induction or c section for suspected big baby?

Baby is on 97th percentile and they are saying at 39 weeks ‘I need’ to have a c section or be induced. Has anyone refused this? What did you say and what was your plan?

You don’t need to have a C section at all, that’s madness. What you ‘need’ to do is research birth positions which best open up the hips.

Big baby is not a reason besides ultrasounds get more inaccurate the further along you are so your baby may not be as big as they think it is.

The estimated weight from ultrasounds is usually pretty off... they told me my baby was 8.5lbs. She was 6lbs 12oz

I had planned c section because my baby by 37weeks was already 3.400g But i hi I’m labour before 2 days of my c section So I can say that I regretted that I accepted to deliver natural because ,first he was big ,didn’t have enough space,he had cord around his neck and I ended up with forceps and epidural and 3 cuttings and a lot of stitches

And he was 3.700g by 38 weeks and 4days

It’s such a common issue thst women are getting bad advice from their drs that they did two episodes on it. It’s all evidence based information. Induction for big baby goes against the NICE guidelines and isn’t based on good medicine! Both of my babies were over 9 lbs and they came out just fine. Stay active, don’t lie down on your back, listen to your body.

I have not done either, but just some food for thought... After my son was born my midwives literally told me they thought my son was bigger than what he ended up being (i didn't ask how big he was at any of my appts bc everything was fine, so i had zero idea befoee giving birth how big or small he was)...he was only 6lb 4oz and was born 3 days before my due date. So, if I was told what you were and they induced me or I had a c-section he would have been even smaller and would have likely needed to stay in the hospital (we were released 4hrs after delivery😊)! Your body, your choice. If you and baby are healthy and you want to wait, simply tell them that. They can not force you to have either of those procedures.

I was adamant that I wasn’t going to be induced or have a section because of a big baby, but was warned that if estimated weight reached 5kg that would change the discussion slightly. Baby hit the 5kg mark at 38 weeks. Consultant went over all options again but no pressure to do anything, scanned again at 39 weeks at there wasn’t enough chart left to plot estimated weight! Was scanned by 3/4 different consultants every fortnight from 28 weeks and they all estimated baby was gaining 1lb per week. Final estimate was 12lb7oz, but I reckoned it was closer to 11lb. I opted for a section at 39+3 and baby was born weighing 10lb9oz. She was extremely big and broad and there absolutely would have been complications for both of us if I’d gone for a natural delivery. The section admins recovery were much easier than I expected (even with complications afterwards) but you need to do what feels right for you
