Ulster

Hey everyone just wondering about any experiences for the ulster for delivery either vaginal or c section? I'm giving birth there in dec/jan but unsure of everything and have felt so rushed at every appt so far that it's making me feel like birth will be very stressful as well

You can give birth in the home from home, we’re you have the option to have a water birth or unmediated birth. I think they only have gas and air available but do have options for you to use a ball or other equipment during birth. I think I seen a video on YouTube. Alternatively if you want an epidural your forced to be in the labour ward, where the options above aren’t available. I think there is a range of options but would be worth talking to your midwife about it. C-section is another option but usually people don’t opt for one in their first pregnancy unless recommended. I can send you a DM about my birth experience even though it wasn’t what people would call a great experience it was a positive one. Keep an open mind as my birth plan went out the window.

I had my birth in the ulster vaginal delivery and honestly they couldn’t have been more understanding and helpful through it all they make sure that it’s all done at your pace and they’ll talk you through everything, when going for my appointments there it did feel very rushed but when jt comes to the time they couldn’t be more helpful and even if you are under stress they just have this way of talking to you and making you feel so comfortable I couldn’t have thanked the midwives enough at how amazing they were, honestly don’t be stressing they’ll make sure your birth goes to plan of how you want it

Aww thanks girls that makes me feel a lot better, not due for a bit anyways but just thought is ask! I do have anxiety and worry about labour and that's what is maybe pushing me towards c section but I'm going to keep my options open for now

Definitely keep an open mind. If you go into labour before your c-section they may not be able to offer one. As well I have heard they do get pushed out if they are extremely busy.

And do you only get your own room in home from home? If you're on labour ward is it bays? It's not even the pain of labour I'm worried about more the feeling of not being in control or something going wrong

During labour itself you get a private room but once you have had the baby you get moved to a recovery bit before being taken down to a room with 5 other mums unless you get given a private room. I’m not sure what the requirements are. For home from home I know you get the room for certain for one day but may be longer and then moved to the room with 5 other mums. Although you may get checked out before you get moved. If you have to get induced before labour starts I think you might be in a bay with other mums before your labour starts or walk around the grounds. It would be best asking your midwife later on in the pregnancy about options your interested in.

I had my first baby in the Ulster home from home, I was lucky to have such a positive experience, I couldn’t recommend the care I got from the mid-wives highly enough! You have your own room. I’m also due in December and hoping to go there again all being well. They give you lots of control over what you’d like.
