Vaginal birth or planned c-section

Sorry, it's a bit of a long one 😅 I'm 34 weeks pregnant today and I've been trying to decide whether I should try a vaginal birth or have a c-section. I dreamt of a water birth with just hypnobirthing at the start of the pregnancy, but now that I'm only 6 weeks away from my due date I'm starting to think of a c-section. I have fibromyalgia and for the past couple of weeks the pelvic pain and just pain everywhere has become unmanagable. Also, baby is predicted to be over 9lbs, currently around 5lbs, so I'm starting to worry about my recovery afterwards with my fibro. I'm now thinking, although a c-section has a longer recovery time and is major surgery, it may be easier for me to book one for 37/38 weeks as baby is just going to get bigger and make me more uncomfortable. My husband and I are trying to look into the pros and cons, so was wondering if anyone has previous experiences or any advice? I'm really starting to panic now as my midwife appointment is on Thursday, and I know she'll ask what plan I have. Oh, and I don't know if this is a factor, but baby is still transverse with his back to the exit 😅

Ahh my baby's still transverse so having to think about this right now 😩 but from what I've been told they won't do a c-section before 39 weeks unless absolutely medically necessary to do it that early as its too risky for baby x

I’m also measuring big and was told that I would have to have baby at week 38 if he continues to grow as he is. And a section will be reccomend due to his size so this might be something they discuss with you anyway x

I think it’s down to each hospital trust as to when they will perform c sections. My hospital for example will allow c sections from 38 weeks and I’ll be booked in for an elective c section at 38 weeks and I don’t have any medical complications X

It's typically 38-39 weeks because you could keep being postponed if there are emergencies so you could have several dates before they finally perform the c-section. It's something I'm considering and was going to discuss with my midwife at my next appointment.

Im same my baby is measuring 5lb and im 33+5 days. I dont no what to do for best i had 2 births before this vaginally and was induced both times. But i dont no if to opt for a selective c-section now x

I’ve opted for a c-section it will be booked next week for 37 weeks as it’s medical reasons as I have GD, high blood pressure and anaemia. I was given the option but told that if I went for induction and my blood pressure went high I’d be sent straight down for an emergency section so I’d much rather have it planned than an emergency and due to my sugars being high and being on insulin is rather have a section and be in for 24 hours than have to be in 5+ days with Induction x

I think im going to ask for a c section i hemoridged with my first after being induced so it frightens me. Im scared of epidural tho x

I think this is something that you need to have a good discussion with your midwife about the pros and cons. It might be that they eventually suggest an elective c section due to baby's size and if they remain transverse (however there's still plenty of time to turn head down and an ECV may be successful as well). I'm having an elective c section due to baby being breech so have been doing a lot of research. The recovery is no joke, it's tough, especially whilst also looking after a baby. I know someone who struggles with fibro and how debilitating it can be. However if I were you I'd try to weigh up whether it would be better to try to get through the next few weeks and have a vaginal birth, rather than have the recovery of a c section whilst also dealing with firbro and have a baby to care for. Also, I highly doubt you will be able to book a c section before 39 weeks as most trusts just won't do this unless there's a serious health reason in relation to baby. X

I dont understand these comments that they've been adviced maybe go for a csection as babys measuring big..i had a 10 pound baby & nobody meantioned a c section to me.They let me go 2 weeks overdue too

Personally I'd do as much as I could to avoid the major surgery but if baby remains transverse it might be your only realistic option. If they turn have you considered requesting an induction? Bear in mind though it can make labour more painful.

I’m going through this exact same decision process due to me being a professional rider and after numerous examinations I’ve been told that I will struggle to progress in labour leading to a high chance of an instrumental / emergency section. Everyone has an opinion and from my experience I’ve tried to mainly talk to people who’ve had a section. Yes the recovery can be longer but the people I’ve spoken to have all had very positive things to say about their experience of a section which has put my mind at ease big time. Do what is best for you; after weighing up my options, the safest bet for baby and I is a section so that is the route we’re going down. Good luck xx
