Positive C-Section and Post-Op Recovery Stories

Hi All, I’m due to have a C Section soon, and while I feel optimistic about the surgery itself, I’m really dreading not being able to take care of my baby or be able to breastfeed. I have a very supportive husband luckily so I am sure he would do everything around the house but some reassurance on my ability to breastfeed and change/snuggle/take care of my baby would be much appreciated. 🥺🥺🥺 Also how soon after a C Section were you able to start going out for gentle walks or a coffee etc? Many thanks 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Following this, I have my c section in two weeks x

I have my second C-section this weekend, had my first last year and it was incredibly positive. C-section doesn’t mean you will have problems breastfeeding, I successfully breastfed my daughter for 14 months and didn’t feel the C-section had any effect on it. The first couple days I took it slow but I was out for a walk outside with partner pushing pram on day 5, out shopping in supermarkets on day 10, and by 3 weeks I was back to driving and doing most things I could before. Didn’t feel any issue picking her up or changing her either.

I breastfed just fine..you've just got to find the positions. I used to make a cushion sofa on the sofa where I would then use the cushions either side to do the "rugby ball" hold so he was out the way of my stomach. I have a feeling I was going on tiny strolls within the first few days and I felt totally fine by week 3!

I recovered fine with my first little boy two years ago. Had no issues with picking him up, caring for him and I breastfed for nearly a year. I think we did our first gentle walk around day 6. Highly recommend keeping on top of the pain medication at the beginning though as definitely felt it when I didn’t x

Hi. I had an emergency general C-section last Sunday so 8 days post op. You will be able to breastfeed, constantly ask the midwives for lots of support on positions etc and moving the baby as I found that helped so much when we got home. Put your changing stations high so you don’t have to bend - we are using the kitchen table and my dressing table in our room. Snuggles are amazing and you can def do that post c section. Make sure you keep up all your meds including the paracetamol in the middle of the night - this is made such a difference to me! We went on our first walk Wednesday and a glass of wine and I probably walked too far. It meant I was in a lot of pain in the evening. Probably walked 15 mins so not far at all. However, today I went on a 40 ish min walk and have been fine. Take everyday as it comes but make sure you don’t do too much! I haven’t bent down properly either and I’ve noticed that’s helped. X
