@Becca he does take a dummy usually, but where he is so poorly he is refusing anything that isn’t my breast 😔 I’ll save that though for the future- thank you! X
You could try baby nurofen instead it's doesn't have that medicine taste and comes in strawberry or orange, I put my lo in the car seat to give it to him there is less spit out in that position for us. Failing that you could little by little put a tiny amount on your breast while feeding? Never done it myself but might work. Good luck xx
Put it in right at the sides (switching in between)and administer only a little bit at a time. Lay him down, but don't give too much at a time so he won't gag xx
Forgot to say I find the 1ml syringes easier, the ones you get to collect colostrum in x
I also have the same issue and needed to give my LG calpol tonight, I squirtrd it directly in to an upside down teat of a bottle, and she just sucked it straight out and that was it was all at the tip of the teat and she took the whole lot thankfully xx
On a spoon is best for us x
I literally squeeze the tiniest bit out and rub it into my daughters tongue... its not enough to gather to spit... takes a while but when she's feeling that way out, it works
If they take bottle I put it in the bottle teat and let her suck on that as she spits it out if use the syringe x
I’ve tried calpol in mouth then straight on the breast/bottle and just keep doing that until baby has taken full amount of calpol xx
If still no luck your doctor can prescribe you baby paracetamol as a suppository. Helps to get medicine in their body and they don't feel discomfort from it either.
@Stephanie this! I'm from the Netherlands and to be honest it's the only way they administer paracetamol to babies. I bought a load of them when I went back home as you just get them at your local superdrug or boots.
Stroking babies cheek while giving it might help - I think it encourages the suck/swallow reflex! I also find giving it when my boy is hungry immediately before a feed helps as he is more eager to swallow
I syringe it for the right amount and then pop it on one of his spoons and he takes it fine xx
Thanks all! Lots to try 🤞🏻

The best way I've found is to syringe a tiny amount at a time into their cheek, after syringing remove the syringe from their mouth and gently blow on their face, they have a reflex that makes them hold their breath if you blow on their face (same reflex that makes them hold their breath underwater). They will automatically swallow. It's horrible while you're doing it but it's the only way we can get Calpol down our daughter and was shown to us by the out of hours GP. The 10 minutes of feeling like a terrible parent is worth it to make them feel better in the long run 😁
Do they take a dummy? I go like 0.5ml at a time and quickly put dummy in until he sucks it then keep going until all 2.5ml is done x
