Vests and babygrows?

Is it necessary to pack vests and babygrows in baby’s hospital bag? I have currently just packed babygrows but keep reading lists with vests on too to layer underneath.

I’m concerned about the size of the baby 😂 so I’ve got one super tiny set, a newborn size with 3 vests just in case, and a 0-3 outfit with 2 vests in case we have a chunk. I suppose you don’t know how long you’ll be in hospital either. I’m a FTM so don’t have any experience with this though either x

I would definitely pack some vests, just remember that baby has been warm and cosy for months then as soon as the baby is born the temperature is cold. Plus some hospitals are colder than others x

I would pack vests, I’ve packed some in first size and some in 0-3. I’m not sure if anyone else is the same but unless it’s hot I use a vest on my children underneath everything everyday until they are about 2.x

Yes defo vests. Baby will be cold when they come out. Remember they are used to literally being inside you nice and toasty! My daughter is almost 2 and still wears vests, they don't regulate their body temperature very well for the first couple years x

Yes, baby needs a vest under the babygrow. Babies need to wear layers to keep warm as they can’t regulate their own temperature.

I've packed both just because it'll (hopefully) be November and cold. Layers are needed in the winter! X

Vests are a good idea as it will be colder and when bringing baby home you will find that you shouldn’t be putting a coat on baby in the car so helps keep their heat in.

Thanks everyone! Next question - which vests to go for!? I’ve heard that the over the head ones are a bit of a nightmare to get on but not sure what other options there are!

I don’t think there loads of types. H and m have some wrap over ones. The ones over the head are good for poop explosions because you can take them off by rolling them down rather than over the head too :) x

Vests are essential

Better to pack too much than not enough I'd say, and as others have said, baby will need to be kept warmer, I think it's recommended that they have at least one extra layer than you'd expect to have for yourself, from what I remember from my first child. I do need to refresh my memory but I'm pretty sure that's the case. So vests are kind of a staple and then you layer them up with their other clothes and keep them all snuggly and squishy and toasty 😍 x
