Ferritin infusion ?

Morning ladies, I had my 34 week midwife appointment this week, and I asked her to take my bloods as I just knew my iron and b12 were low as I feel shockingly exhausted. So she took my bloods and contacted me the next day to say that my iron b12 and ferritin were all really low and that I’d need a ferritin infusion as I’m already on the highest dose of iron medicine, which clearly isn’t working. What I’d like to know is, has anyone else had this? And what was your experience? I’ve read online that it can’t be given after 34 weeks? I just want to feel myself again,I have zero energy and I start mat leave after today (2 weeks holiday first) and I really just want to enjoy it and be able to nest properly without getting knackered after just doing the washing up! Thank you xx

I haven't had a ferritin infusion, but I do have b12 jabs every 12 weeks and it makes a massive difference (I have had them for 4 years for other health issues) but they have been a life send in pregnancy as both my iron and b12 are low. I started taking 3 iron tablets a day with a vitamin c soluble drink and only then did my levels start increasing. I think if they are suggesting it it will do you wonders and you'll be amazing just how much energy it gives you. Good luck 🤞

@Emily thank you for your reply, that’s good to know that you feel much better after the b12 injections. My midwife has contacted me again today advising that I also need b12 injections, I’ve been advised to collect the prescription from the pharmacy then call the doctors to arrange them, apparently I’ll need 6 in total taken every other day. Seems a lot? How soon do you start to notice your energy levels increasing after the injections please? x

Yeh that's the normal starting dose. When I was first diagnosed with b12 deficiency I had to have 6 loading doses and then it went to 1 every 12 weeks. It's just to ensure your body quickly gets up to a correct level. I normally feel more energised within 24 hours! So it's pretty good - couldn't not have them now!

@Emily wow brilliant, thanks for the info, can’t wait to have it now! 😊 x

I’ve had an iron infusion, took about a week to kick in, sometimes can take 2. Feel much better now though

I had ferrinject infusion for past two weeks having blood checked Thursday to see if it’s improved I do feel better after having it done. It’s just like a drip takes around 15 minutes xx
