It all depends on your specific case of RA and where your body is at now, but I was in pregnancy remission on nothing until I flared unfortunately, 5months in. It’s quite common to stay in remission through birth bc of how our immune system responds to having and holding onto a foreign body (literally) in utero. Don’t fret and feel free to DM me 🤍
Thank you for your message Laura, that is reassuring 💕 I was tempted to stop it but they said the same thing.. the RA is more dangerous. Which is frustrating, I really wanted to be drug free during the 9 months!
Same here- I feel you completely! However it’s definitely been worth it as I was able to have a really healthy pregnancy otherwise
I went off plaquenil and my bio injection (Enbrel) from conception until the 2nd tri, when I had to go back on plaquenil + prednisone because I had a sudden major flare.. I had to continue on plaquenil & pred through birth and am just weaning off as I’m now 8w postpartum and able to go back on injections. 3 lactation consultants and our pediatrician agreed this was safe, even when my Rheum wasn’t keen on the injection. He was fine with plaquenil and I have another friend who also took this through preg & breastfeeding. I carried my babygirl full term, had a natural birth in the hospital and she was not under weight at all (8lb 11oz) with no defects or issues at all. She is exclusively breastfed and doing great now at 2mo. I’ve read studies on plaquenil and to me the risk of RA inflammation is more immediate and can cause the same/worse outcomes that are purported as risks of plaquenil. Don’t stress, and maybe ask the GP for the research against plaquenil to make an informed choice
