Ur call but i had my nails done fresh.nothing happened my baby was emergency c-section came out fine.transmitters on fingers fine.obviously they prefer u have bare nails as it works better.
Midwife told me it is not an issue at all anymore but is easier if they need to put the oximeter in your finger. If you have nothing on your toes they can put it there or even your earlobes! X
I ended up in theatre with a spinal block with my first due to a tear and had gel nails on and they didn’t say anything
I had a planned c section on Friday and was told prior to remove them to make the finger oximeter work okay. But I'm sure soooo many people end up having ops with gels on, so I don't imagine it can make much difference.
I have planned section on Wednesday and have been told to take them off
It's not a major issue if you don't remove it. I ended up in theatre today unexpectedly as my placenta failed to deliver after birth. As it wasn't planned I have gel nail varnish on my toes and acrylic nails on my hands. They just had to turn the pulse reader thing around and it was fine x
They put a transmitter on your fingers, which interfers with gel/varnish. That's why they don't allow it. It's written on the list of instructions they give you so it would make it difficult if they needed to do an emergency section.
