I had gestational diabetes with my last birth, and my doc wanted to do do induction between 38-39weeks. I was trying to push it to the very last minute bc I really wanted to go natural but my blood sugar levels were crazy unpredictable and out of control even with insulin so we moved the date up to week 38. We planned the whole ballon/pitocin drip with IV to control my blood sugar during labor. But funny part is baby had a different plan, they didn’t even have time for any medical interventions, she was born 5 hours before my scheduled induction appointment. 😎sweet!
Oops sorry I’m not type 1, read too quickly.
Hi, although I choose an elective c section I had a healthy pregnancy, have been type 1 for 27 years and I was told I could go to 39.5 weeks and they would just keep monitoring me so I def think you can say you want to wait but will maybe need more regular check ups at the end xx
Yes, natural birth at 40+6 weeks. Type 1 for 29 years
I wanted natural and had to get an emergency c section after induction. In retrospect, i wish I had just waited until 40 weeks and done the c section scheduled. Do not put yourself through induction then c section if you dont have to. I was told diabetics are put into labour at 39 weeks for safety reasons. I concluded that your body is suppose to do this stuff naturally at 40 weeks and if they wont let you go past 39 weeks anyway, why go through the pain of induction just to be told you need an emergency c section. If you do end up with c section, make sure you have your golden hour and breastfeed asap (if you plan on breastfeeding). I found the hospital just pushed formula because i was dealing with c section healing aftermath. If i could have a do over, id wait as long as i can - research has shown brain and lungs are still developing at 37-39 weeks. Natural is possible but ive realized its a small percentage for diabetics.
@Elyssa thanks for posting this. Too late for me...induction led to emergency c section, I was under for hours, and they pushed formula. Getting to breastfeeding has not been easy. But ein the end I have a healthy baby, but yes, I wish I had just done as you recommended haha.
@Courtney ah damn. I agree - BF is not easy. I ended up exclusively pumping. Wish i had been able to tell ya sooner! Glad baby is healthy. I hope you dont feel too upset about BF (I know I was).
They generally decide based on estimate size and weight of baby. They generally induce/ or have option for c section of baby measures big. I chose c section due to my fear of shoulder dystocia. Born 37+6 at 9’7 despite excellent sugar control a big but perfect baby 🩷🩷🩷🩷
Following in hopes of someone who has opted to go natural their pushing me for an induction at 39 weeks so I’m just hoping to do things at 37 weeks to get things movin!
