I had a vaginal breech birth with my first baby so can’t compare it to a previous one, but it was a really positive experience! I’ll link my full birth story, and would really recommend the Breech Birth UK Facebook page as well. I was in labour for about 48 hours in total, I went to the hospital after approx 45 hours and found out I was fully dilated so had laboured at home entirely unmedicated that whole time. I was offered gas and air but it didn’t do anything for me so I didn’t end up using it, my waters broke about 2.5 hours after I got to the hospital (I would have gone in sooner had they gone earlier), I pushed for 15 minutes and my little boy was born one foot first. My main concern was cord prolapse but I had a scan a few days earlier which showed the cord was all well above baby so as safe as could be. I was also concerned about having to recover from labour and a c section but I was willing to risk this to give my baby the benefits of a vaginal delivery …
… and to hopefully avoid surgery myself! The most important thing as far as I’m aware is being upright and pushing on all fours which allows baby to descend how they need to. Here’s my story but happy to answer any questions if there’s anything I’ve missed! Good luck :) https://breechbabiesclub.org/chloes-story-a-positive-planned-vaginal-breech-birth/
could you look into having a private independent midwife experienced in breech vaginal births assist at your birth if you can find one locally? this is something i was considering when my baby was breech. she talked about the saying “hands off the breech”! the thing about c-sections is theres a risk of emergency c-section with every birth breech or not. i had an ECV went into spontaneous labour cephalic and my baby wasn’t happy so ended in an emergency c-section anyway. sometimes i think if i had left her be and delivered her breech maybe she would’ve been early like majority of breech babies and i wouldn’t of had the infection that caused her HR to dip!
also what ive heard is breech labour is QUICK and often ends up being accidental home births or theres no time for them to do a c-section once in hospital x
I had my first head down and my second was breech, had a vaginal delivery with both 😊 Best decision I made was not having a section but everyone’s choice is different, there’s an amazing breech FB page if You’re UK based 😊 Did gas and air only both times. First 3 and a half hours and second was an hour and a half of labour from first contraction 😊 I also had an ecv which didn’t succeed, but baby was breech from 28 weeks xx
Also happy for you to message me too for more details xx
@Natalie youve made me feel so much better!! how was your baby breech? like what position were they in? x
I had a breech natural delivery unmedicated- the dr told me people think that the risk is with the head however it is not the case as head and bottom are the same size and should not be an issue. My experience was positive, it was intense but quick !
im in the same boat as you right now and planning breech delivery!! x
