8 week old nursing strike

Has anyone had this? No symptoms of any illness but it's been 4 days of crying at the breast, pulling away, hitting boob. But at the same time he shows hunger signals and pants with excitement if near my boobs so I keep trying him, swap sides, help the latch and its like he forgot how to latch as too stimulated /distracted. Does this whole shaking head from side to side although the nipple is basically in his mouth but he doesn't close his mouth to start to suck. Or he does and feeds for 15 s then breaks away again and cries with frustration. I don't know if this counts as a full nursing strike as I have not had to resort to a bottle and still manage to feed him (enough wet and dirty nappies). Mainly by rocking him to sleep first as he feeds absolutely fine when half asleep. Dark room helps a bit and rocking and shushing and I fed him in public no problem with a muslin and rocking and shushing (admittedly he was also sleepy). Any advice? Will this pass? It's so exhausting and I really hope it improves before I have to see his dad's relatives at Christmas as I'm sure from a outsiders perspective it must look like it's my fault and I can just imagine the comments of just give a bottle. Aaaah! Thank god I can rock him to sleep in a sling. Looking for some encouragement as I realise the more anxious I get about it the worse he will latch when he's awake. I'm not sure if it's a fast let down or him being able to see and feel so much more with the development leap or both. I can't use a feeding pillow anymore as his legs need to hang or he kicks off any surface and gets distracted by that and he seems to want to feed more upright with my knees supporting him 🙈 exhausted

I had this and it went back to normal after just over a week. It’s a hunger strike. You’re doing amazing. I would take my daughter away to a quiet dark space to eliminate distractions or even feed her in public cause they seem to behave better out and about. Mine is 11 weeks now. Her latch changed after the strike episode but she has gotten better

My 2 month old has has been doing this the last few days. Sometimes I have found it’s just something else going on. IE gas, working on a big poop, tired etc. During her 4 am feed this morning she did this the whole time and as soon as I stood up to take a break from it she passed out and she’s still asleep now. I realized she must have been having really active sleep and I woke her up thinking she was awake 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

@Hope thanks so much!

I am going through this now too.. my daughter is 7 weeks and usually she feeds for around 2 hours a day but today she has only managed 40 minutes. It’s strange as she is the same and goes hunger signs but she screams and gets frustrated when trying to feed her. Keen if anyone has any advice or if this will just pass? Hope it passes for you @Alex

@Demi hey he fed much much much better Saturday and Sunday, minimal fussing 🙏 hopefully it's just one off day for you too Keep trying different positions, rooms, environments, muslin over head or removing dummy while nipple is right next to it so you can switch her on before she even realises Or try to feed while she is v sleepy
