My contractions usually start with waves of discomfort/surges in the lower abdominal region… they build up to a peak and then ease off. Would definitely liken them to period pains that come in waves instead of a consistent full ache.
I keep getting uncomfortable pains in my belly but I'm so confused with the difference of braxton hicks and real contractions these pains don't last long probably about 5 minutes but I've had them 3 nights running and I've been told braxton hicks don't actually hurt so I'm so confused 🫣
@Leah I think they do hurt for some people. Cos I've seen so many people talk about having painful braxton hicks and it definetly wasn't labour pains because they wasn't in labour 🤷🏼♀️
I have no idea what they feel like either and also curious! I guess since I've never felt braxton hicks that as soon as I get contractions I will just know they are contractions straight away
I had off and on period pains that would come in waves and last around a minute every 5 minutes for an hour which was uncomfortable and then for the next 2 hours I had irregular pain i could sleep through with the occasional side/back pain, then my waters broke and I had the baby less than 3hrs later.
My contractions definitely felt like period cramps but they were really low in my pelvis and also in my lower back. I never felt like I got a hard tummy from contractions although my midwife said when she felt my stomach she could feel the contractions. Just felt like cramps to begin with for me which got more and more intense x
It could be period/diarrhoea type pains in your lower stomach that do have a pattern to them. Or if baby is back to back you could have cramps in your back which get worse every 10mins or so! I had back labour with my first baby and then the period type cramps starting every 8 mins apart with my second!
