St mary or north Manchester

Hi guys! I was just wondering if anyone could tell me their experiences with both hospitals? Bad or good, I have to choose which one I want to give birth in as I’ve had to switch from royal Oldham due to moving 🤗 thank you!

St Mary’s is your best option as that’s where all the facilities are if anything goes wrong or if baby needs extra care if you are to give birth in a different hospital and anything does go wrong baby will be transferred to st Mary’s

I have given birth last year in February at st Mary’s and i had the worst experience. I was supposed to have an emergency c section, it was very serious as both me and my baby were in high risk and they kept delaying me for another 3 days. Nurses were not so nice as after a couple of hours after I’ve given birth I asked the nurses to change my baby’s nappy and one of them came and told me to do it by myself. I had to wait for my mom to come and help me as I was in a constant horrible pain. They barely come and check in on you.And honestly the conditions weren’t as expected.

I had my baby at st Mary’s and no complaints from my experience with them was all positive. I had a bad experience with north Manchester they told me I had a miscarriage when it was just too early to see the pregnancy. Xxx

i had my 1st baby at St Marys and didn’t have a great experience, im due my 2nd baby in September and i’m under North Manchester General this time. I love that they have a birth centre, im planning a home birth but may use the birth centre if i change my mind. I haven’t had many appointments yet but i love my midwife so far.

St Mary’s every time, and if you need more specialist care you will be transferred there anyway

St Mary’s and NMGH are the same. St Mary’s in Manchester is an umbrella for 5 of the major hospitals. St Mary’s Wythenshaw (where I gave birth as I wanted a water birth), St Mary’s Oxford Rd, St Mary’s Salford, St Mary’s Trafford General and St Mary’s NMGH. I had the best experience at Wythenshaw. X

Had both mine at North Manchester. Had the best support both times, everything and everyone I needed

It depends on the type of birth you want. St Mary's specialises in difficult births so they have a lot of specialist equipment if you have any issues. They obviously take people with normal and straightforward births too. I chose st marys as I liked the reassurance as a first time mum that they were trained in worst case scenarios so no matter what happened during my birth, I felt like I was in the best hands. I did end up having an emergency c section and it was the smoothes experience. It also has very new facilities. North Manchester is a proper maternity ward so if you want a water birth or anything like that, then north Manchester is where you want. St Mary's is like a normal hospital ward in that sense so there's certain birth plans you can't have there x

Thank you 🫶 I can’t have anything but a normal birth due to my placenta as I’m at high risk for bleeding out after birth, by the comments I’m thinking st Mary is my safest option, thank you everyone again 🤗

My birth was fab at north manchester. Il be going there again this time round x

My experience at St Mary's was brilliant. Everything pre birth was great but the post natal ward was hard. I had a emergency c section which went really well. Thank God I was on my feet with hardly any pain because I had no help whatsoever and my baby stayed up crying every night! No one came to help and when I asked for help I knew to press the buzzer 30mins before because that's how long they took to respond! The thing is they are overly stretched in the post natal ward.

I agree with Nessa St Mary’s for pre birth excellent.. I had an elective section, the staff around during the anaesthetic were fab and kept me calm until the surgeon sliced my babies head open, all birth plans went out the window, they didn’t know what to say, no one was prepared for this happening, no skin to skin, I didn’t have time to try and breast feed as planned, they spent most of the time to glue his head which they spilt glue all down the back of his head which got hard and cracked made him all sore. No one came to explain, I just got ‘your lucky it wasn’t his face’ which I agree but not what I needed to hear at that moment. Some of the staff on the wards were brilliant, some not so in fact one night in particular was horrendous and I’m still not over it, they left me with no pain meds for hours, I was suposed to see a doctor the next day who never turned up. Like I said I couldn’t fault them pre birth but in my experience after having baby was bad xx

I honestly think after care is horrid everywhere at this point reading stories aha, with my first I gave birth in Bolton, the birth part was amazing! But the aftercare was horrid 🫣 I was crying to my partner the next day because my son had pooped all over his cot and they wouldn’t get me new sheets or help me try to connect with breastfeeding, I stopped pressing for help in the end 🙈 I was lucky the midwife who had was at my birth was in charge of the ward the next night, she got me home after waiting all day to go 😮‍💨

St.Mary’s we found was really good had both of our babies there and we couldn’t fault them x

I gave birth at st Mary’s recently & couldn’t fault them. I was told different stories both good & bad so I was also sceptical, but mine was brilliant. I ended up having an emergency c-section & they were all absolutely fantastic, even after the surgery. The nurses & midwives were incredibly helpful & supportive of both me & baby from start to finish & I honestly felt waited on by them all. Even with my ridiculously loud snoring after the epidural knocked me out😅

Every individuals experience is different, some good and some bad and unfortunately in my case it wasn’t too good as tuned out to be traumatic. I had my elective c-section at north Manchester and during the procedure they cut into my bowl they had to repair this as quick as possible so normal elective C-section would take 20-30mins and I was in the operating theatre for 6hrs being repaired. I was only told there were complications, No mention of what happened exactly until following day. Aftercare just went out the window as I had no care plan after having two major surgeries, didn’t receive medication on time, I was on NIL food and fluid for 6days as there was risk my bowl surgery could rupture or bleed. When I finally was able to eat they never gave me the food. I missed on skin to skin, I was unable to hold my baby and missed out on breastfeed experience. On the 7th day I came home and was absolutely relieved.

I gave birth in St Mary’s last June and I couldnt be happier with our experience, I had a 27 hour labour and the same midwives stayed with us throughout! They also treated my bf like a king constantly feeding him😅 also a lot cleaner than several of other Manchester hospitals Ive been to!!
