I don’t know what app or website, but I know there are lots of doula students who help for no charge as part of their certification program. They’re absolutely worth whatever cost they say! In our position, we couldn’t afford it but when a doula through my midwife reached out to ask if we’d like her services when I was in labor for no charge we thanked her and accepted. I absolutely will be saving in advance for our next birth to pay her because she was a lifesaver! id go as high as 2k, but i know if varies by what services you get
That’s actually cheap, I was quoted $1,500 here in the states.
@Karry where did you look? I’m interested in one
@Shani I asked on my Facebook local groups
I disagree with those who say if you have adequate support you don’t need a doula. Doulas are completely different and a family member is too close to the situation to advocate for you if needed. I think birth support makes a tremendous difference in a mother’s birth experience
Also, friends, family members - may have had their own experiences but they didn’t experience every scenario. It’s not the same
I just had my daughter last week and used a doula. I did not use one for my first daughter as it was during COVID and could only have one support person in the room. With this birth, I wanted to aim for an all natural hospital birth. She came and did a house visit first to show us laboring positions & how my husband could help/be involved. I also had different things to do as the time got closer to ensure baby was in the best birthing position. She helped me learn how to advocate for myself when my doctor continued to push for an induction. I learned a lot about the birthing industry/business from this - amazing how induction is pushed so much & then turns into an emergency c-section per your body not being ready. She also did a postpartum meeting with us; helping how to navigate this postpartum with a toddler as well. She was a HUGE support for me in labor; love my husband, but he doesn’t know how it feels to give birth & be in that position. I paid $1000 - worth it

I think it depends on the level of support you already have. If you have a big, close knit family and an involved midwife, I don’t think you’d get much out of it. On the others hand, if you feel like you are missing some of that support, it might be worth it.
