formula to cows milk

My sons 5 now but with him I just went straight to cows milk when we ran out of formula, same oz as usual. I'll do the same with my daughter when this formula runs out. Only prep I did was give formula from the fridge so he got used to the temp

From what I’ve seen and read on a couple of weaning pages - you slowly introduce the swap by replacing an ounce of formula with blue milk and increasing this over time. So for example, if your baby has 7oz of formula in a bottle, you could do 6oz formula and 1oz blue milk then increase the blue milk over the next few days and reduce the formula amount.

@Ashley that's exactly what I'm doing at the moment, 6ounces formula and 1 ounce blue milk, and it's been fine 😊

@Ashley so would you put the blue milk in the same bottle as the formula? Sorry for jumping on this post but I have the same question regarding switching from formula to cows milk. What weaning pages do you recommend for getting advice?

@Kailey have you been giving the blue milk mixed with the formula? How often does your LO have milk?

@Zoey yep, in the same bottle! It’s just to get their stomachs used to drinking the blue milk, gradually is better! Facebook pages - weaning the BLW way And Baby led weaning meals. Both pages are helpful for weaning ideas but the question around bottles and transitioning is asked a lot!

@Ashley haha sorry for also jumping on this post but I've been wanting to know about mixing formula and cows milk for a while. How old was your LO when you started doing this? Mine is 11 months on Friday so wondering whether to start this in the next week x

I decided to try my lo with cows milk last night just on its own without mixing with formula and she took it no problem so from now on I’m just giving her cows milk. I never mixed with my oldest daughter so decided to just try going straight from the formula to cows milk and my daughter seems fine with it.

@Marie haha no need to apologise! My little one has just turned 11 months - haven’t started it yet, I’m just going to wait until he turns one. I’ve got enough formula left so might aswell 😄 providing your little one is a good eater etc then I don’t see why you can’t start the switch sooner. Not sure if you’re on the weaning pages but they also recommend that once baby has made the full transition to cows milk, they only need around 16oz in bottles per day (probably a morning and evening bottle), and the rest of their dairy intake can be via foods they eat in the day like yoghurt, cheese etc!
