Coughing caused some rib pain

So, I'm 32 weeks pregnant. Somehow, I got sick with cold like symptoms: coughing, some nasal congestion, and sneezing. I think I may have pulled a muscle near a rib on my left side on my back because now every time I cough, it hurts pretty bad. I think I was subconsciously trying to protect the baby and ended up just hurting myself in the process. Has any other pregnant moms experienced this? I'm going to the doctor later for my biweekly appointment and will have her check, but just curious if anyone has felt this pulled muscle pain before while pregnant.

Coughing can actually break ribs so maybe get seen sooner

im currently 33 weeks and very ill with a cold and cough, my doctor has said its viral and because of that you cannot effect the baby by coughing hard, the only way a cough could effect the baby would be if its an underlying illness not viral, but my ribs and chest hurt when i cough and my back but my doctor said its just because our lungs are pushed into such a small place because of our big bellys it hurts more x

I’ve got exactly this. So so painful!! Not much we can do sadly but I have true same thing at the mo

@India agreed! It seems to be better if I'm standing, but if I cough when I'm sitting, it hurts more.

@Chelsie yeah, the baby doesn't seem phased. She's still rolling and tumbling around as usual. It's more discomfort for me, it seems. Just another joy of being preggers I guess 🫠

@Toni laying in bed has been a nightmare too!! It hurts so much on that side

I had pneumonia and the coughing fits pulled multiple muscles in my back lol that ended up being worse than the pneumonia! I popped some Tylenol and got a heating pad and rested and it eventually went away. super super painful 😣

@India agreed! We have one of those foundations for our mattress that move up and down to help with breathing. I read something about sleeping on the left side at a raised angle for pregnancy in the third trimester, and I tried it at about a 40° angle last night, and it helped me soooooo much.

@Toni sounds good!! unfortunately for me I can’t lay on my left side for longer than 5 mins atm as then the pain is unbearable. I think I need to buy more pillows to prop myself up!!

@India it's definitely worth a shot. Anything to get some relief.

@Toni honestly its awful being pregnant and being ill and then the doctors say itll pass itself and it never seems to 🤣

@Chelsie or just takes absolutely forever. I'm also annoyed because I don't know where I even got sick lol. But add all of the tailbone pain and the increasing lightening crotch, and it's gotta be one of the most interesting sicknesses I've had haha

@Toni literally same
