Depending on your OB. My SC was discovered at 23 weeks (couldn’t get a cerclage), but wasn’t put on full bedrest until my 2nd preterm labour scare around 26 weeks. All I did was drive and stand at work (I was on light duty). Some OBs don’t believe bedrest does anything. All Ik is once I got on it, preterm labour stopped & he came at 40+1 weeks, and I was 3cm dilated from 26 weeks on as well. 🙃
@Erin Great to hear that! Thank you for sharing your experience 🤗
@Ava Let’s see if my Doctor suggests to get it done. Thanks for the suggestion :)
I agree with Ava - try to push for a cerclage - I did at 26 weeks and it has been helping. I’m on progesterone (800mg per day) and have a cerclage. I do believe lots of rest as much as you does really help. I’m not person who can be in bed rest for too long but I’m barely on my feet much and try to do short walks which has proven to be helping in my recent cervix scans. So I agree with Erin. My first was preterm and I wasn’t on bed rest or any form of rest and he came at 26 weeks.
My cerclage was put in quite later on so don’t wait too long as it’s better earlier on. Wishing you all the best!
@Sonya Thanks a lot for sharing! I will talk with my Doctor regarding cerclage. And I will take rest seriously.
Similar situation at 22 weeks, OB says take it light but no bed rest recommended
I would recommend that you get a preventative cerclage before you’re 24 weeks and before your cervix starts funnelling or dilating, the earlier you get the cerclage, the less risks it carries. I lost my first baby at 22 weeks due to IC, unfortunately they couldn’t do an emergency cerclage when I went into labour because I was already 10cm dilated and haemorrhaging badly. I’m pregnant with my rainbow baby and I had the cerclage done at 15+4 when my cervix was 3.7cm, at my follow up my cervix was 4.1cm, I am also on progesterone pessaries but I use them rectally as they are absorbed better due to the thin membrane and also there is no leakage so you’re getting the full dosage compared to when you put it vaginally, it will also prevent any infections when used rectally. If you get the cerclage done early when your cervix is still good length, most doctors allow you to do normal activities as long as you’re comfortable but definitely strict pelvic rest and minimal bending + no lifting.
@Sonia Thankyou for the suggestion and sharing your experience :) Means a lot
@Megha Chhabra Thanks for sharing your experience. All the best to you too! :)
I had the same situation @Disha .. I diagnosed with short cervix in week 23.. and doctor mentioned I need to be admitted to hospital in case baby come early ... so I was on bed rest and had progesterone vaginally first then they changed to orally... the best thing they did .. they gave me injection 💉 in my 23 weeks . Just to expedite the process of developing lungs ... because only the lungs take time to develop... then I went to till 32 weeks .. and he came in 32 weeks 3 days... touchwood absolutely fine🧿 .. because doctors said after 28 weeks the delivery is safe ... so I can completely understanding your situation dear ... I can feel you 💝 .. dnt worry dear ... we are the special moms of special babies ...just do prayers on daily basis and you and your baby will be fine ... trust me
I got a cerclage at 21 weeks and put on progesterone rest of pregnancy for short cervix.
If you can push for a cerclage as well as progesterone
