How can I convince my doctor to induce me?

*please do not suggest I continue waiting, I’m 40 weeks pregnant, my mind is made up and I’m honestly miserable and tired of being pregnant at this point I can barely walk* But what can I say to my doctor to convince her to induce me? I have an appointment this Thursday ( which is my due date as well) to see if I can be scheduled for an induction and hoping she will🙌🏽😩.

Felt, wish I had good advice for you but I’m going to try to convince mine tomorrow

My doctor told me after 39 weeks + u can say u want to be induced it’s your decision. But it might be different I’m in Ohio

My Dr offered at 39 wks, you probably won't have to do any convincing

FTM- I drank castor oil, had a 6 hour labor and pushed mine out in 25 minutes. Just saying what worked for me 🩷

@Ashley did it give you the runs?? I almost did the castor oil but multiple people said it would give me diarrhea. How much did you take?

@Amy it was a terrible experience. I’ll add that for a few days prior, I experienced every pre labor symptom except my water breaking. So I’d already had diarrhea before the oil. At 8:40 PM, I drank 4 tablespoons. Around 9:50 is when I had my first big cramp (had no idea this was the start of contractions). About 10PM, on toilet- diarrhea not all the bad, just uncomfortable pressure but I’m breathing through the discomfort of my watery poops lol. It was once I started violently throwing up in the trash can while sitting on the toilet that things started to go downhill. After 10, the time frame of it all is a blur, the pain went from mild cramps too what felt like 30 second to 1 minute intervals of actually feeling normal. I went to the hospital around or a little after midnight. Friday night I was 1 to 2 cm, Saturday night I lost part of the mucous plug. Sunday night(castor oil night) I DEFINITELY lost the plug.

@Amy I’m at hospital in triage, just shrieking. I was 5cm, shortly after I was moved to the labor room to get epidural and went from 5cm to 8cm in what was maybe an hour? I really don’t know the time frame of everything because the pain made everything feel like an eternity. I truly believe the castor oil induced my labor. I know it’s frowned upon, but I did it and have a beautiful healthy baby, no major complications- I just tore. I was 38+5, could not move or sleep or function. Little girl is 7lbs4oz and 20 inches long. I tore up the front and the back. I couldn’t imagine staying pregnant and her growing anymore. Perhaps the pain and tearing was from the quickness of the labor which was probably caused from the oil but for me- this was my at home induction that worked. Edit: My water didn’t break until the 8cm check. It was bulging out and ready to pop at any point.

The best argument you can use is that the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists say elective induction can be done after 39 weeks in healthy women (see below) https://www.acog.org/womens-health/faqs/labor-induction When you choose labor induction and you and your fetus are healthy, it is called elective induction. For example, labor may be induced at your request for reasons such as physical discomfort, a history of quick labor, or living far away from the hospital. Labor induction may also be considered for healthy women at 39 weeks of pregnancy to reduce the chance of cesarean birth.

My doc says legally they cnt schedule an elective induction before 41 weeks. I’m not sure if all practices follow this rule.

@Janelle I would ask them to please share with you which law they are following.

I’m 40 weeks and 1 day and I’m beyond done with this shit lol I have an appointment tomorrow and I’m going to ask for a 2nd membrane sweep. I know we will be discussing induction as well.
