Bedford or Milton Keynes hospital?

Hi! I'm looking to hear about people's experiences at Bedford and Milton Keynes hospitals. I'm not sure which one to go for - Bedford is closer but doesn't have a NICU. I'll likely need inducing (over 40) but I'm leaning towards a water birth if possible.

Can’t comment mk but I wouldn’t recommend bedford!

To be really honest with you I wouldn’t recommend Bedford. Although my birth experience was amazing, it was the care before that was hurrendous to the point where the consultant I was under (twin pregnancy) had put in my notes for me to be given a sweep at 35 weeks which put me in hospital not for the first time. I was in early labour from 28 weeks and no one could explain why and I just kept being sent home. Thankfully my twins were okay and our birth experience was amazing. But it’s the before and after care that wasn’t.

I’ve heard so many mixed things so I do feel like it really depends with every scenario. I know a lot of people who have had babies at MK and they haven’t exactly recommended it. I had my baby at Bedford at 28weeks and he stayed at their NICU for 2 months. My prelabour experience was way better than post labour. The NICU team were amazing though! That’s not quite definitive I’m afraid but I’d still choose Bedford over MK for 2nd

I had both of mine at MK. First one they tried to send me home, even though my waters had broken, I refused and hung out in the hospital. After a few hours hubby begged someone to check me, they realised baby was in distress and rushed me straight from triage for a c section. Worked on baby for 12 mins to get him breathing, no one told us anything. Ward 9 afterwards is no fun, hot and crowded. I have no idea why but loads of women chatting on speaker on their phones or watching programs on speaker. So you don't really get much rest. It's hard to get any attention or pain meds, also very hot. 2nd baby I was the only one on labour ward so had 3 midwife's, I think they were bored. Ended in another emergency c section. Ward 9 afterwards was the same as last time. They put baby on antibiotics without telling us. I was in for 2 weeks both times. Their NICU though was really good.

I had a great experience at Bedford!

Do you really need to get induced in the first place! Baby comes when it’s ready. Totally your choice but I have had such terrible experience so far when Bedford hospital!

Hi! I heard mixed reviews about Bedford hospital. I’m currently 21 weeks pregnant and I’m terrified of the labour as I don’t know what to expect from the hospital. I’m just hoping my experience will be good 🤞🏻

I have birth in MK this month, had a failed induction and then had a c section and ended up in ward 9 for 10 days. My verdict is that I felt that they messed us around a bit, my c section was rescheduled 3 times and it was meant to be “urgent” but clearly not urgent enough to be rushed to theatre. The staff in labour ward were all lovely, Ward 9 also we had a incident where baby needed antibiotics as doctors were doing a infection screen and the midwife’s forgot to hand it over and it was delayed 7 hours, thankfully our baby was okay and didn’t have a infection! But imagine if they did. Would I recommend MK? Probably not
