When do I call the midwife in early labour?

Hi all, I’ve been having period like pains since 3.30am. They last about 30/40 seconds every 4 minutes but I can still talk and walk through them, even gone and done a food shop. At what point do I call the midwife to let them know what’s going on ?

I would call now, as they can advice you lovely. Worse case they will just say to give it a little while xx

Call now and just let them know. Mine were like that and when I got to the hospital as advised I was already 8cm😂😂😂 so it’s always best to call up incase x

@Paige sounds like a dream! Hope mine go that way 😂

@Amy honestly both times I never knew I was in labour 😂😂 x

Call them now just to give them a heads up. They will probably tell you to come in when you can't talk through the contraction xx good luck

Don’t call Your midwife you need to call triage/assessment unit for anything labour related. I’d honestly say wait a little bit longer until they’re at least taking your breath away or not able to walk through. You can call now but they will likely advise you to stay at home. It’s worth trying a warm bath, this can often ramp things up a notch if it is true labour starting

@Ceri-Ann I had none of this and was in full blown labour, it’s different for everyone x

Yeah my contractions were coming every minute lasting for a minute soon after my waters went and I was in the bloody shower washing my hair, then putting some mascara on 😂 had to wait for my dad to get to us to take us up to the hospital anyway so I had time to kill and could go about as normal, just breathing through the contractions. Good luck!

rong labour ward

@Amy any updates?

@Chloe I called up and the midwife said to keep going until they got stronger and closer together. Still getting regular pains like earlier but hasn’t progressed further :( still not had my bloody show yet either

@Amy bless you, how far along are you? Hate to say it might be braxton hicks?

@Chloe yeah I am wondering if it is BH or false labour. I’m 39+5

@Amy I’m 38+3 with my second baby and I have them all the time, often it’s when I’m doing lots of nesting bits, cleaning etc

@Amy I never had a bloody show, or my waters breaking until I was 2 minutes from giving birth so don't rely on that 🤣

Could be slow labour. X

@Rachel me neither, I didn’t realise I was in labour and I got to the hospital and I was 7cm dilated, waters went 20 minutes later and I gave birth within 20 after that

Update, it has turned into full blown labour. Been having contractions since midnight and lost my mucus plug a few moments

@Amy good luck and hope it goes smoothly! I had a feeling that was going to happen x

@Paige baby boy was born at 19.10 on Thursday and he is perfect 🥰

@Amy congratulations sweetie xx

@Amy congratulations, what perfect news! So so happy for you 💕
